Shared Drive Issue?

I hope I have this topic in the right place. We have recently have VM install in the street all the fibre cables and most houses in our street can sign up to a VM service (did this via the postcode checker) However myself and a few houses cannot sign up and this maybe due to having a shared drive?

I really want VM as the internet here is slow 40mbs, when I contact VM customer service they cant advise as to why I don't have service or even how I can get it.

My question is really what does VM need to install fibre to me? Is the shared drive the issue?

Assuming it's an underground feed, first they would need written permission from everyone having shared rights to that drive.   Second it must not cost too much to dig up and repair the drive, so it must be short and not something difficult like block paving.

If the VM Fibre's are in the ground,
check if there are VM service hatches for your group of properties.

If the fibres would be run from telegraph poles,
is there a viable route from a pole to your property ?

Hi thank you for the replies, the VM is under the pavement I believe that when they install it under the road that there was connections put in for us. The shared drive is just compact gravel, its approx the width of my semi house with garage.

Im not sure on the permissions as not so long ago we had new gas pipes fitted to all properties and I do not believe they asked for any permissions to dig it up.

If the old gas pipes were being replaced, there is an existing permission.

    How long is the drive?

Its approx 12metres long. I suspect it must be access permissions thats stopping me. I seem to recall some letter that was on about access which I know I did online. Maybe its just my neighbours havent done theirs.

I was expecting to see at the boundary of your property or driveway,
VM hatches like this set of four that serve homes with a shared drive.

For our VM service we have 1 hatch of this type in the hedge, VM have not dug up any roads or pavements since the microfibre tubes were laid and the connection boxed installed.

A wayleave is needed from each owner of the drive.

Indeed and you only need one Luddite to sink the progress.

Mention it may add £50K ++ to the value of their property to be able to write Gigabit internet is available on an estate agent's flyer ...

  • Just an update, there was a VM rep in our area, hes informed me that my house is connected on the street right up to the shared drive. He said he should be able to sort this issue and is waiting on an email however that was a week ago.

Figures crossed he can sort this out for me as im only geting 40mbs with BT.

Wondering if anyone can help further on this, talking to the Rep he says that the issue is not a access issue but a 'contruction issue' I tried to contact him a number of occasions to check for any update but nothing.

If there anyone i can email or call to look into this in VM? or should I just wait on the Rep?

        Hi Kris537

        Welcome to the Community Forums.

Sorry to hear that you've not been able to request an installation due to a construction issue. There isn't a direct email for anyone you can contact regarding this. We can only complete a form on our side which would raise a query to the installation team to check serviceability, but this seems to already be in motion with the rep you're speaking with as they've identified construction issues to be the cause of the delay or unserviceability at this time. So the form would be a backstep to where you seem to already be in the process of property serviceability.
