Removal of virgin media cable and box

Hello,

I've recently bought my house and there is a Virgin Media box and cable which runs through my front garden, over the top of my house, down the back of the property and into my living room.

I don't intend to become a Virgin Media customer and would like this cable removed if possible. It is causing an issues to my development of the property as we are planning on having a driveway installed to replace the original front garden.

The cable is in a green protective flexible pipe and hasn't been buried in the garden so presents a trip hazard in my front garden development. It's tricky to see because it's green in our overgrown front garden.

Would really appreciate any advice on how to remove this myself or whether virgin could please come and remove this from my new property.

Many thanks

Daniel McDermott

  • I'm no longer Virgin's customer and would like to completely rebuild my front garden where their line is put. They didn't protect it well, partially goes unprotected and some of it under slabs. Unfortunately my neighbour's fibre is also there and she's still their customer. Who should I contact to to remove that from my garden and move neighbour's line to their garden?

Have a chat with your neighbour - preferably over a cup of tea - to avoid any future animosity (VM are not in the least concerned over the possibility of a neighbour dispute). Explain the situation and give her notice of a definite fixed date on which you will be removing/having removed the 'trespassing' VM equipment from your property. The onus is then on her as the Virgin customer to make appropriate arrangements with them for her service to be uninterrupted.

You are then totally out of the situation although your neighbour can expect to be subject of non cooperation and blatant lies about any proposed action.

Unless VM wish to make arrangements for removal with you then inform them that you want no contact with them - you are not a customer.

  • I moved into a property that has this unsightly tube running through the front garden. I have no intention of ever having Virgin Media and would like the tube and cables removed. I know for certain that we don’t use the cable but cannot confirm whether they are being used by my neighbours.

If you haven’t organised removal of this within 2 weeks, I will remove it myself, it is then down to Virgin Media if any problems arise with other customers upon removal.

    many thanks,

    GH

      Hello GH9.

      Thanks for your post.

Sorry to hear about the external cabling in your garden. As this is classed a utility we would not be able to remove this for you.

If you were to remove it yourself, Than it would have a detrimental affect on the networks for other customers.

When you check the cable coming from pavement to your property does it stop at your wall or does it go to your neighbours.

If the latter then it will need your neighbour to contact us and arrange a rebury.

  • Hello Virgin team,

same issue as the above 9 pages. I’ve about 3 cables coming out the ground and connecting to a box on external wall that no longer service the house (not virgin customers nor will be).

please may we have a technician visit and remove if deemed possible?

      Hi GarethMorgan86

      Welcome to the community forums

Sorry to hear of your concerns with the  external cabling.

We don't remove the external cabling upon request. Is there an issue with the cabling at this time? Such as a trip hazard or within an area of your property that is undergoing expansion/construction works?

        Thanks for the reply Carley

Yes, unfortunately there’s about 2 metres of cable just loose in the open unmatched to anything.

It comes from under a path we have in the front garden. Safety issues when cutting the grass out there. But also we’re a little on edge when our two toddlers are playing out there.

we have plans to re pave and landscape the front garden. So would like some support in the cables removal yes.

Does this give you enough information?

  • Hello, We have the same issue with the old Virgin media box attached to the front facade of our house with cables above ground all exposed and loose and would like these removed. Could you please advise. Thank you!
