Question for the community - Student account New router being sent, but found old router.

As per the title, my daughter moved into Student accomodation yesterday, and we contacted Virgin to have a new router installed - this is being delivered on Thursday. 

During cleaning we found 3 old routers in the cupboards. 

We plugged one of these in and it worked, but had no internet connection. 

Is it possible that virgin can connect one of these old routers instead of having a new one sent out ?
