Pre-Installation Problems

Our 30mb Sky Broadband contract was coming to an end on 10th January and so when we received a knock on the door from a Virgin Media broadband sales person in mid-December informing us that we could now order ultra fast 1gb broadband through Virgin we ordered the next day.

We were advised that our service would be installed on 9th Jan but we would need some pre-installation work on the outside of our property by Virgin’s third party contractor Comex2000 which would be completed in advance.

We were never advised when Comex2000 would arrive but by install day today (9th Jan) the work had not been completed, despite us contacting Virgin every day for the last week to advise we were still waiting.

This morning the Virgin engineer called to say he would soon be arriving and was very surprised to hear Comex2000 had not competed the pre-install work. He made some calls and shortly afterwards a Comex2000 engineer arrived to our property. Upon arrival he informed us that he could not compete the pre-install because the fibre cable would have to pass over a power cable to reach the property. This is the exact route our existing copper cable connection takes (presumably installed by openreach) and is the norm amongst the 200 plus houses on the road.

Has anyone come across this type of situation before? For the life of me I can’t understand why Openreach were perfectly happy tonisnatll the copper cable over the power line but Comex2000 are now not prepared to install the fibre connection in the same manor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as we are now without broadband and in limbo with Virgin regards connecting. We have a young baby and rely on internet connection for monitoring cameras, heating etc.

I'd advise you to go back to Sky.

  • Hello edgepjames,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re having with your installation at the moment. We wouldn't be able to advise about the issue from here but we can get in touch with the manager in your area and ask for some further clarity. We would need to take some details via private message to do that, would you be happy to do that?

    Kind Regards,
