Pre-install question

Good Afternoon

I currently have FFTP broadband with EE but am looking to change to Virgin Media.

I currently use my own equipment (eero 6 pro) plugged directly in to the Openreach ONT box.

Ideally I wouldn't want to change this as I have 3 dotted throughout the house - can anyone confirm if you're able to set the Virgin router in to modem/bridge mode?

It appears my Virgin install will come from the telephone wire (Virgin Media is live (2000 Mbps - XGS - PIA) as my current with EE does - does anyone know whether they would reuse that wire or put a new one on my property and another external box?

Thanks

Virginmedia use their own connections, entirely separate to Openreach. Their 2Gbps service uses XGS - PON, with their own router called Hub5x.  It does not have a bridge mode, although a few people seem to have got around this with some unsupported changes. There are a number of threads in this forum and elsewhere.

Better deals for new customers.  Why, is there a reason I shouldn't?

        • As mentioned above no modem mode with the only HUB available for XGS - PON, so double NAT.
        • Technically the fibre network is still in the very early stages, some would say 'trial mode'.
        • Customer services have no clue at the best of times, never mind if you have an issue with a fibre connection. Contacting support is near impossible unless you phone early, else there is no point unless you want to wait hours, or speak to a never ending chatbot online.

If it works great, if not good luck.

just be sure not to cancel our openreach contract until the VM line is installed and working - install problems on here can have no ending - if the install is put back then thats usually a couple of weeks - that can then be cancelled for another 2 weeks or a month or months - up to a year is nor out of the question - if that happens you will get no info - nobody will be accountable and you will be left on your own

so think very hard - its not always about the cheapest deal - openreach is just the core - theres many others - theres always one who has offers

Well you could start with VM being at the bottom of the lists for customer service at Ofcom, Which, Trustpilot.

    And there's this...
