New customer - install delay

I had the initial technician visit, and as the previous tenant had virgin media. There's a VM box on the inside wall.

I was told the cable had been cut, and he couldn't complete my install that day. They sent an appointment for two weeks ahead, with the caveat that the cable has been mended or whatever they do.

I was also told that it would be a few days!

They also sent me an email saying there hadn't been VM in the property before, when there quite clearly has been.

I think it's ridiculous having to wait all this time. I've had no email or phone call from the engineers as they said would happen, and I just don't see why it's all taking so long.

After reading about some of the delays on here, I'm seriously considering cancelling and going back to sky.

Totally fed up, and wish I'd never bothered with Virgin Media.

Don't let the clock run down on your 14 day cooling off period.  As you have found out, once a cable problem is handed over to the 3rd party contractors for repair, VM can't seem to give a firm date as it's out of their hands.

Yes but surely the outside contractor can't just please themselves. My son is a contractor for various large companies and they get fined if work isn't completed by a certain date. They would also lose the contract.

Virgin just use the outside contractor as an excuse for not having any management of the external work. They have claim they have no idea what happens when it leaves them. It can go on for months

The outside cable work could be days, weeks or months away depending how busy the outside contractor is and who else they may be working for.

If you need broadband now, go with someone who can actually supply it. Be sure to register your cancellation with VM and tell them why.
