Moving from Virgin Media

Hi,

I’m planning to switch from Virgin Media to another provider, but I haven’t been able to get clear answers to a few questions. I’d appreciate any assistance with the following:

  1. When Openreach installs the new connection, will they use the existing Virgin Media inlet to run the cable, or will they need to drill a new hole in the property ?
  2. Will Openreach remove the old Virgin Media cables entering the property, or can I request them to remove/disconnect them on the installation day or do it my self?
  3. Will Virgin Media disconnect my internet service on the same day as the Openreach installation, or will it be disconnected the day before?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    1. They may be able to use the same hole, you'll have to ask them on the day
    2. Openreach will not touch the VM cables. You can remove them but if you move then the property will show as available for a quick install but the new occupier will find it is not possible due to no cabling.
    3. If you have used the One Touch Switch you should not be without broadband service during the switchover, however that does not work for any VM TV service so you'll have to cancel those by calling.

      Many thanks for the message.

Openreach came to do the survey and they confirmed that they will not use VM duct but can use the same hole to feed the cable in side the house.  .

They  were planning to install the fibre cable through the existing openreach link but failed to pull the old cable as the ducting was blocked. See the pic . If they had managed to install the cable they would run all the way to the existing VM point and insert into house using same hole.

However now they will run a new feed from a box outside,  parallel to VM and install a new BT 25 + 101A Cover so the new cable can be installed.  Waiting for council approval to dig. Let's see how long it will take.
