Installation woes

Having applied Broadband with Virgin Media, I think I sinned somehow, and I am paying a price of mental anguish everyday.

Applied in August for date in September. Engineer visits and claims to have some block with fibre optic cable and rebooks for 15th Oct. Then they call a day before and push date to end of Oct. Then leave a voicemail a day before pushing it to mid November.

I am in a university town and broadband is super essential for my academics, extra curriculars and research and submissions, and this apathy from Virgin Media is not helping at all.

I tried tweeting and received typical, indifferent, prepackaged, canned responses that they would not help me there because of some technical issue that X poses in their lives and this could be a good place to seek support.

The only reason why I have to endure their ineptness is owing to their monopolistic hold in my post code and clearly they ride on that fact and continue subjecting their current and potential customers to unacceptable levels of incompetence and indifference.

Is there any end in sight for installation woes?

Is there any escalation path to have a redress?

VM installation delays can be months, even resulting in a cancelled order when a decision is finally made that it is too difficult / too costly to provide a service.

Have you checked if Openreach / EE offer a broadband service in your street ?

I checked BT and they could not match the speed and Starlink was prohibitive one-time-installation cost, I will re-evaluate openreach and EE today; clearly installation woes is the hill that VM is prepared to die on

  • you know i looked at wifi networks in my neighbourhood, starlinks show up now and thanks to Musk, the downbeat Virgin Media monopoly will be a thing of the past someday. Cannot believe how inefficient they can be in modern 2025 Britian, where enabling a fibre optic connection sends the engineers in a tailspin

  • This is quite normal for Virginmedia. Nothing you can do but wait.

This is why Which? has awarded them a Shoddy award for three years running and Ofcom puts them at the bottom of their list for customer service.
