I Need a Virgin Media Wall Socket

Hi,

I've ordered a broadband only package and it said I was applicable for a self install kit. But I have no Virgin Media Wall socket in my house. All the wall sockets I can see are for BT.

Tried looking but can't see a way to book an engineer for this?

Thanks

Advice here is to look outside.

You should see a double “shotgun barrel” type cable coming in from underground into a grey or brown “omni-box” or Dropbox. Cables come out from this and go round the walls or go straight through the wall in some cases. You may find it is just a cable coming in through the wall, in which case a simple adaptor is what is needed.

If the externals are not there this needs to be reported, as a separate set of contractors will need to be bought in to re-establish the connection to the street cabinet.

Only box I can see on exterior of house is attached, can't see any "double-barrell" wires coming into the house bill.

The wires may have been removed by a previous owner.   You will need to get a manned install to re-wire in the sockets etc.

You can phone this in, or wait here a day or two for a VM Mod to pick this up.

  • I have the exact same issue. I have been provided with a self install kit but have no Virgin Media wall socket. I can't find any way of organising a technician now through the website help centre. Please can someone from Virgin Media respond to me and help me to book an appointment? Thanks in advance.

Call the pre-installation and delivery team on 0800 052 1734

Have you checked to make sure there is no other kind of connection? Sometimes there is no wall box, just a trailing cable. The cable could be hidden within, or behind, furniture. Occasionally only a very short stub of wire is left behind often hidden within a blanked-off fitting. The wall box may be branded with the logos of an old cable TV company (not VM). Past occupiers of your property may have removed the cable and sometimes they are removed by other installers, such as satellite TV techs.

If you have a plastic omnibox outside on the wall (where the VM cable comes in from the street) see if you can trace any wires from that into your home.

If no luck, call the number above for a tech installation.

      Hi lizzieferg,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us via the Community. It's lovely having you on board with us in the Forums.

We're sorry to hear you've not got a socket installed already.

Taking a look at things this end, we can see a visit has now been booked in for you. Please let us know how things go.

      Many thanks,

      Hey JoannaC,

I can see you are already in a private message with one of my colleagues, if you correspond with them there, they will be able to assist further.

  • Got a technicians visit booked, I've redecorated my entire house since moving in. Of course I'm not leaving weird cables in the walls everywhere. The fact I had to knock down my shed that also had two long black cables attached to didn't help. Who the hell is wiring these things up? I suspect the two wires I mowed over in the garden didn't help either. The box in the street has collapsed too. Going to be a fun visit I suspect and I'll still be without internet.

  • Same issue here. I have the omnibox on the outside wall with 2 output cables.
Inside the house,  the thinner (phone?) black cable has been cut off flush to the wall, there is what appears to be a co-axial cable with a screw fitting connector poking out of the wall a couple of inches, looks like the box was removed previously. Can someone assist in providing what we need to connect, please?

      Hi there Ampersand1

Thank you so much for your post and welcome to the community forums, it's great to have you here.

I am so sorry that you have faced these issues with your service, can I just clarify do you have a quick start install booked or has the equipment already been delivered?

It was self install, equipment has been delivered.
I managed to find a splitter which connects the existing cable from the omni box to the internal cable to the router and its working now (wi-fi only contract so no phone or TV package to worry about) but it's an ugly set up and I need to now source a box to cover the splitter junction so that it stops interfering with the window blind.
