Endless Lies from VM. Anyone else?

So I signed up with Virgin the day I found out my moving date for my new flat. Much like many others, Virgin is my only option for high speed internet though, at this point, I am not bothered about speed.

My move in date was the 1st December and my installation was booked for the 2nd. I received my contract and received emails from them to confirm that permissions were not needed to install the external line. I then messaged Virgin on the 25th November to confirm that things were okay for the 2nd.

At this point, they told me that the original contract did not go through and that it was all cancelled and I needed a new contract. I said I was only willing to sign a new one if they could still give me the 2nd as I need the internet for home working. They promised that they would uphold the 2nd as the installation date.

Next day, they tell me that they can't. Their reason? Severe weather. I sent them a message with the weather forecast to prove that this was a lie. Then they told me it was due to them looking after engineers. I told them my sister was a Virgin engineer so I knew that they worked in all weather but, again, there was no bad weather. They then told me they did not have an available time slot. I told them that I was promised and that this is arguably misselling a contract. It took 2 hours to get compensation.

They promised on this date that the pre-pull was scheduled and would be that week. I messaged on Friday to say that it hadn't been done. They told me there had been an error and it would be done on Saturday. This sales rep even said it would be a personal guarantee from him that it would be done by the end of the day . I messaged on Sunday morning to say that it wasn't done on Saturday. They said it was an error and it would be done today. I even telephoned the installation team, who said it would be done today.

I drove by the property at 16:40 today and, guess what? The pre-pull has still not been done.

I get that they still have a week to sort it before the 9th but I am beyond done with the constant lies that I am receiving.

After reading so many horror stories, I am thinking to give until possibly Tuesday to sort things out and then I am going BT. I'd rather have slow internet than no internet at all.

Some questions which may be relevant ...

What floor is your new flat on? (VM regularly runs into problems and delays when installers have to work above first floor height. Sometimes it means no installation at all)

How do other VM cables reach the flats? Do they go via internal or external routes? (Each method has its own issues for VM to resolve)

Who owns the freehold for the building and is a wayleave required for VM to install cables? (One of VM's favourite excuses, and resons for delay, is to do with obtaining wayleave agreements)

Review the compensation scheme while you wait and keep detailed notes of VM's failure to deliver. This will help ensure you get paid whatever you might be due by way of compo

Writing a Jackanory that accuses any new supplier of being a liar
has to be quite the most foot in mouth way of asking for assistance.

  • They consistently lie through their teeth, its in their DNA, absolutely scurrilous company with no integrity whatsoever.
