Can I have wifi with this cable?
I recently moved in to a new home and the Virgin box inside appears to be damaged or at least old. I have just signed up for Virgin - can I use this box? Or is an engineer needed?

Yes, that box is what you need for Broadband
The cable coming out the bottom just looks to be an old telephone connection that is now not used anymore.

I'm sorry to hear about the issues with the internal wall socket.
By the looks of it one cable has been terminated, but the point of connection is on the right of the socket, where the connector cable will go in.
Everything looks fine from here - let us know how it goes when the services are installed.
