Cables not buried under the surface

I am installing a new driveway, I am not a virgin media customer, but the cables are visible on my property,( barely buried under the turf )  and the junction box is on my outside wall .. my contractor has told me to contact you regarding this to get it rectified as he doesn’t want to damage any cables, when removing turf , there are flats above, which maybe where the cables are going, but the entrance to their property is at the rear.

  • Hey p_caplen, thank you for reaching out and we are sorry to hear about this cable issues, also a warm welcome to the community.

Are you looking us to join us or are you wanting everything removed?

The cables could belong to the flats, its hard to say.

I would prefer to get rid of them … I don’t even know if they belong to the flats, as they have a separate entrance around the back.. There isn’t a communal entrance,The contractor who is doing my driveway, has told me they are not correctly buried and are exposed, in other words not installed correctly.. The actual box on the wall is broken and has no cover and there is large amounts of green tubing coming out of the ground ,It would be easier to speak to someone  on the Fone, but there is absolutely no way to contact you via Fone… and ‘ speak to a human’ or ‘speak to an agent’ doesn’t work. I need this issue resolved as the licence which I had to pay for the work to be carried out will only last a few months Kindly Regards.I was a Virgin Customer for Several years, and never had any issues with you .

Are you certain they belong to Virginmedia? There will be a connection point in the pavement outside.

The cables may be protected by a wayleave granted by a previous owner of your property, in which case it will be shown in the Land Registry record which you can access online.

If they are not so protected, you can give Virginmedia notice that they must be moved. But that will have to be in writing to their head office.

Hi, I am and always have been the only owner,I bought from the Council..before Virgin were around, and have never given permission for Virgin to dig up my lawn or attach the box to my property … it just looks so unprofessional.. and trying to contact them is impossible.. Thanks for the advice, I will check to see if the neighbours actually have Virgin, if not then, then I have read you can disconnect them yourself as they aren’t live cables .. Kind Regards
