Automatic real speed tests

The automatic tests are driving me mental.

How do you get the tests removed or stopped? I tried support and after a 1.5 hour phone merry-go-round I still have it.

The stuff it caused , ping spikes , disconnection from online games etc.

How is anyone meant to do competitive gaming etc?

Share a live BQM for comments please.  I don't know how you would resolve it, but if you search the forum, it has been done in the past.

I don't think VM ever advertised as being a platform for "competitive" gaming to be fair.

  • Nope it's basically useless for any online game as soon as it starts its test on my line disconnect , massive in game spikes. And as I am on 2gb symmetrical it's not something myself or anyone should have to deal with.

2gb is to do with large files too and from work  - not just for gaming.

      You need modem mode!

The OP is on a " 2gb symmetrical" connection, therefore they will be on VM's hub5x which doesn't support modem mode.

This requires input from VM Staff to see if they can escalate this to have Samknows testing turned off.

Or for large work files, for that matter.

  • Are you still within your 14 day cooling off period? If so look into cancelling and switching to giffgaff broadband which AFAIK uses the same Nexfibre backbone and doesn't do the annoying metronomic speed testing (although I am interested to hear from any giffgaff broadband customers on the latter point. Giffgaff is also sadly limited to 900 Mbps currently-albeit symmetrical ).

Via our RFoG connection, we do not notice VM's speed tests, of course our usage may differ as we do not have children or grand-children playing games 24/7.

The most recent VM speed test email report says:
101 test were performed over the last 3 months,  that is less than 8 tests per week.

A VM user can't switch to giffgaff as that's on nexfibre. These networks don't overlap.

The OP is on Gig2 which I therefore assume is Nexfibre.

Nexfibre or one of the Project Mustang upgraded areas that is now offering Full Fibre 2 gig.

Back to the OP's complaint: I recall at least one case where VM belatedly switched off the relentless speed testing which was messing up his connection.

  • Hello rowley541971.

Thanks for your post. Sorry to hear about the remote monitoring still being active,

I've had another customer with the same issue a while ago, so I'd like to get this removed for you.

If you don't mind, I'll need to send you a private message to pass security first though.
If you can check the envelope at the top right of your screen, that would be great.
