Am I VM Ready

Hi Everyone

I have recently moved into a new Apartment and am looking to get an internet connection setup.  I had an installation set with another provider who have since advised that they need to install a MDU, for which they will require the building owner/property managers permission etc.  I suspect this may be a long process.

Therefore, I am looking at VM as an alternative as there is already a cable in the apartment, I presume from the previous tenant.  I am just looking for confirmation that the cabling is already in place and that I would be able to complete the Quick Start Self Installation ?  I looked like I was eligible when I went through the order process.

I have the following hardware on the wall of the apartment

I need to get a broadband connection in as quickly as possible, so I'm hoping I have everything in place to set up a Vigin Quick Install

Any help would be great

Thanks
Matthew

Your first pic shows what looks like a fibre optic ONU from Openreach so you should have the option of a full fibre connection from an Openreach provider.

The second pic shows a VM connection point so you should be eligible for a VM Quick Start kit.

Have you investigated to see whether a fibre connection from an Openreach-based provider is an option for you to compare alongside VM?

  • Hi

Thanks for the reply, I may be getting things a bit confused.  Does the VMM connection point provide a fibre connection as well as providing TV services, or do I need a separate connection for that as well ?

    Thanks
    Matthew

All VM services are supplied via the VM box on the wall.  However as noted before, you also have Openreach ONT, which will allow lots of suppliers to offer you a service as well.

You would connect your VM hub to the VM wall box in pic 2 to give you VM broadband and wi-fi.

In the past, the same coax cable for broadband would be used for VM's TV boxes but that seems to be changing now and VM is shifting to more of a streaming-based TV service/streaming box.

I am not that clued up on all of the current TV offerings and means of playing VM TV so someone else will have to fill you in on those details.

Is the VM wall box in pic 2 the only VM connection in your home or are there more connections elsewhere in your flat? That might determine where your VM hub can be best placed.

      Hi Fantomas01,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us via the Community. It's lovely having you on board with us in the Forums. ⭐

We're happy to hear you're considering having VM. Looking at the pictures you've posted, it looks like the infrastructure is there so you're ready to get an installation booked in. When moving through the order process, the team or system will be able to check if there was a live connection previously. If so, you can opt for a quickstart pack over an engineer install.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

      Many thanks,
