Virgin Media end of contract switch to broadband from TV/Phone/Broadband Package

Hi everyone. I'm at the end of my current contract with VM and am trying to switch just to broadband going forward. I did get a quote approx 1 month ago for this from VM Retention Team. However, now every time I ring up the retention team, I'm told this is not possible and can only get a new TV/Internet/Phone package. Does anyone knwo how I can get in touch with someone at VM who can set me up with a new VM Brodband only package? Seems bizarre that VM are refusing to offer a new deal just for broadband as they would automatically to new customers!

Many thanks

Ed B

VM does insist on playing these silly games at renewal.

Have you researched you alternative options to VM and got prices in for broadband only from alternative suppliers?

You may find you have to put in a cancellation to get the response you want from VM but you need to have your alternatives lined up and be prepared to leave if necessary.

Of course you can have a new contract with only broadband. Many people do.

You need to speak to Retentions again. Tell them you have finished with VM at the end of your present contract. But you will sign a new contract if they will offer a good price for broadband only. Before you have that call, check when prices other suppliers are offering.

Thats exactly what I have just done! Asked for a broadband only deal (several times) on the phone to retentions. Is it a case of getting the right person on the phone? (a different call center)

I have already set up a one touch switch with another provider at a big discount to the VM prices. Unfortunately the new provider has showed ridiculous levels of incompetence in trying to connect me, which is why I was prepared to give VM one last chance to retain me as a customer! Seems like they just arent interested. Very strange. Been with them since the beginning too!

VM is still locked into the mindset of selling bundles of services (a dying market IMO as people increasingly try to cut costs by building their own packages from different suppliers).

You could try one more time with VM but repeatedly going back to VM to try to renew just presents the impression that you don't actually intend to leave.

What was the issue with the new supplier? If it was a 'shared' problem, such as a problem with Openreach, for example, you might find similar difficulties with other replacement suppliers.

The problems were of the new suppliers own making (sending out the wrong type of installation team several times, failing to communicate the minor issue that needed fixing between these teams)

Ask for a broadband/phone bundle quote as it might be cheaper than broadband-only.

Anyone from VM able to give me a solution to this?

It can take up to several days, from your first post, to get a reply from a VM person on here.
