Unable to link VM account to VM O2 ID account

I am a new user with no other Virgin Media account. Just received my Hub, set it up and can access internet. When I try to login to my account it prompts me to link VM account with VM O2 ID account. I enter the e-mail that I have used to register and get the following response.

We’ve found your Virgin Media account

However, this account is linked to an email address that’s different to the one on your Virgin Media O2 ID.

If you’d like to continue and link your Virgin Media account to your Virgin Media O2 ID, please confirm the full email address your Virgin Media account is currently registered to.

We’ll then send an email to that email address to approve the transfer.

I get an error message telling me the e-mails do not match. I am sure I have the correct e-mail as this is the one VM sends mails to. Any help?
