TNT sports

I updated my contract the other week and continued with the same package 📦

But now I don't get TNT sports, has this now been removed from the sports package or is it an error.

Frustrating that it wasn't made clear if so.

Just checked the contract that was sent and it says TNT removed.

I agree I should have seen this on the contract sent after agreeing, but I made a decision before this information was clear, I didn't feel the need to check when I was given the impression I would be on the same package.

When discussing a new contract I asked for a new price as I am paying much more than friends on the same deal. The new price was better (although still not as low as friends) so I accepted. At no point in the discussion was it made clear what was being removed.

The issue here is I made a financial decision without all the facts being made clear, I wasn't comparing like for like as I had thought. I was led to believe I was paying the new price for the same package, it's what was omitted from the conversation that's the issue.

This is the second time I have felt misled. Please review my deal, a suitable solution would be to add TNT sports as this is what I expected from the conversation.

I've posted elsewhere that I have got 200 download speeds this morning when I'm paying for 1gb internet broadband.

As you can imagine I am an unhappy customer and hope you will fix these 2 issues as this service is very expensive.

Not sure what you mean by "the sports package". VM carry Sky Sports as a suite of channels (previously with an optional HD add-on), TNT Sports as a suite of channels & Premier Sports.

Some high-end bundles included variations of the above, and may have been marketed as "sports extra", "sports mega" or other similar, but do you have a screenshot of the package you were thinking of?

TNT Sports was previously inclusive within the Maxit TV tier, but was removed under a new carriage agreement with WBD (TNT's owner) a couple of years back. Customers who were identified as heavy users of TNT had the channels added manually with - effectively - 100% discounts. But the "new" Maxit and subsequently relaunched Mega-tier, no longer included them as standard.

BT Sports was previously available with the top tier Maxit TV bundle. Even since WBD bought the channels & rebranded them the carriage agreement has changed & the channels are now standalone premium add-ons the same as Sky Sports. As per usual, VM states that channel bundle contents are variable during or at change of contract. I know it's frustrating. You buy your usual box of chocolates only to find they have removed the Strawberry Creams. Should have looked at the packet first.

I agree I could and should have been more vigilant. My issue is really around the omission of pointing this out. I was under the impression it was the same package, at no stage was it pointed out that I would have fewer channels and which they where, I feel this is where misleading comes I to play. I thought I was comparing equal packages, only to find I will pay the same if not more than before if I pay extra for TNT.

Since my package is already a bit more than friends pay I feel they took advantage of my loyalty. I've been with VM for well over 10 years in total, probably more like 20 (with a 2 year break when I moved to an area that didn't have it) I accept my lack of vigilance, but I didn't feel it required a deep look when I thought I was discussing an equal package.

A very cynical viewpoint would be that this is basic commerce. And in very strict terms, a "loyal" customer is someone who's happy to pay more to remain, therefore why shouldn't a company increase their revenue off the back of it?

A pragmatic viewpoint would be that benchmarking your pricing every 18-24months shouldn't take very long but at least means you're well-informed. Broadband speeds & alternative suppliers, can vary from street-to-street, therefore comparing against friends or relatives at different addresses doesn't always work.

Using 14days statutory cancellation, to put yourself back out-of-minimum-term, and then renegotiate on an informed basis, is one very valid option - having facts & figures handy when you call in, will never hurt your position.

In relation to my second point posted elsewhere, I think I have solved the download speeds issue, it's quicker than yesterday when I got the new hub and any reduction mbs, is due to download speeds of the phones/appliances

      Hi DavidPy

TNT Sports was removed from VM's packages (the now discontinued Maxit and Ultimate Volt bundles which were replaced the Mega-TV bundle) in September 2023, although some existing customers of those bundles were exempted from this removal until such time as they renewed or changed their existing bundle. TNT Sports then became a chargeable (at the time £18 per month) extra. Full details of those changes and the reasons why are explained in an article <Here>

TNT Sports is now sold as a separate add-on that costs £25 per month on a rolling 30 day contract (although it may be possible to haggle a cheaper price).

When did you recontract?   If it's within the last 14 days then you can cancel the changes and revert back to your previous contract. This would mean paying the out of contract pricing but leave you in the position of either re-negotiating a new contract again (with the knowledge that you need to ask for the contract and pricing to include the TNT Sport channels) or place a disconnection request and move to a new supplier.

        Just this week.

So I could withdraw from the contract, I'd rather they add TNT to the package, as I say I know I'm already paying more than friends are, it now feels like a double whammy. So adding it would still be well within VM pricing, I hope they agree. If not I'll check out alternatives, more due to feeling misled really.

Cancel, the contract, and put your cancellation in. You'll then be in a much better negotiating position, when they come begging for your custom.

  • I had a similar experience when my package was updated and I was informed that Sky sports was included. What they didn't tell me was that TNT would be removed. It now has to be paid separately if I want it back. Poor communication from the sales team.

Exactly my experience and why sales teams get poor reputations.

I was given a "special offer just for you" to renew a few weeks back. The offer was for the same price as I was paying which I thought was alright.

I downloaded the pre contract documents and noticed Netflix was not included and neither was my second box.

I decided to phone to check what the deal was and it seems they were NOT part of the "special offer". After some unsuccessful discussion/negotiation with the agent I asked to be referred to a manager. I was eventually connected and to my surprise was offered and agreed a new deal for less than what I'm paying with everything I wanted included. I checked the new precontract documents they sent me in real time before committing.

Lesson: read the precontract documents carefully before agreeing anything and NEVER assume anything with this bunch.
