Packages not fit for loyal customers

Why is it when you want to change your package to the services you only require and get deals like new customers you always get fobbed off. I am paying for a landline I don’t use but cannot get a deal like new customers for just broadband and tv.

i need to save money also and was told if I cancel I would have to pay £136 cancellation fee. I have had my fill of virgin and will be cancelling asap and from a customer of 30 years.

There are regular topics on here complaining about VM's high renewal fees for existing customers.

If you want a new customer deal though, you have to leave VM and become a new customer elsewhere.

EE is currently offering upto £300 towards leaving fees (though I imagine you have to jump through many hoops to actually get it)

If you use one touch switch (OTS) you can truncate the 30 day notice period to VM but not remove any EDF (but OTS does not allow any overlap of services to allow you to test any new service while VM is still in place).

      Knows their stuff

Some altnets offer up to £300 to get out of contracts too, and no in contract price increases and Netomnia/YouFibre started ball rolling with promise of new customer deal pricing when you renew a contract. Other Altnets may also follow that route.

Also most of the ALTNETS have uk support, symmetric speeds by default and usually keen pricing. They also use XGS-PON instead of BTs legacy GPON which means some will offer packages up to 10bps symmetric, and some are updating their networks this year to 50PON, yep 50gbps capable infrastructure. Again Netomnia is doing this.

  • Hi Smac69 👋 Welcome to the community forum!

Sorry to hear this feedback about your experience exploring package options. It's true to say we do have some deals which are exclusive to new customers - all of our customers benefit from one of these when first joining us.

Each package has discounts applied as part of the fixed term, which bring the costs down. Different discounts are available depending on which services you have with us, and this can also affect which prices are available when exploring removing a service. Sometimes you can actually get a better deal by having multiple services due to the discounts available!

We don't really offer support with package changes via this platform as they are best done in real time - however I appreciate you are very unhappy and I can help get a complaint raised with your feedback and experience to offer further support.

Look our for a PM from me in your Inbox in the top right corner of the page 📩 offering further support.

We can then return to this public thread with another update when possible. Thanks for your patience in the meantime! 🌞

  • Thanks for advice people but the virgin representative has now confirmed exactly what I expected and for sure it’s goodbye virgin media in 3 months.

Any alternative providers recommended who are a little more customer based is appreciated.

      Up to speed

I'm exactly in the same boat but luckily I only have to wait 15 days to give my 31 days notice. I don't use my landline and when I try to reduce my BB from 350 (Volt) down to 125, while dropping my landline, I was offered a deal of £48pm. However if I keep my landline and current 350 I was offered a deal of £50pm! It just doesn't make any sense in the current cost of living crisis. I'm trying to reduce my bills and would pay VM £30 for the 125 but no chance of that happening! YouFibre are now offering 150 for £23.99pm and that will save me a fortune! I honestly can't complain about the VM service and I have been with them since Ntl days.

They forcing you to find alternative supplier with stupid fancy deals with landline, SIM cards when they know people really only need broadband these days but tie loyal customers who have took their deals over the years and like you been with them through NTL and even Nynex which goes back further. Service no longer fit for consumer if long standing customer. God luck with new provider , my countdown has started.

Two parts of VM's offering (landline and linear TV) are of ever-decreasing interest for many customers. VM's solution is to try to force customers to take a bundle which includes those services by offering discounts on the bundle. Those who want broadband only often find the cost is close to (or even more than) the bundle price.

As FTTP becomes more readily available to everyone, VM will face a day of reckoning when its bundle offerings are of little/no interest anymore to a great many customers.

In the meantime, many people should be able to shop around and create their own bundle of services using different suppliers - services that they actually want, rather than services that VM tells them they have to take.
