Out of contract price negotiations

Contract ended beginning of the month and it’s the usual song and dance trying to negotiate a new price.
Price going up from £49.65 to £78+ and of course it will go up again in April.
Three phone calls to three different advisors, and one online chat later and still no further forward! We were offered an ok price last week but because my husband ended the call to check with me, when I phoned again, they would not give that price. Some bull about different offers for that week! Always used to be able to negotiate a good deal but they are just not having it this time. Don’t know what else to do.

Anyhow, if I log in to my account online there is an offer which is ok. The advisor I spoke to on the phone says it’s the same package as we have got but I’m not sure.
Currently have:

M125 Broadband. Mix TV and TiVo. Phone with line rental and talk more anytime.
New offer is:

M125 Broadband. Virgin Tv360 and TV essentials. Phone with line rental and anytime chatter.

Any Virgin staff know if this is the same?

Hi orangejuice, thank you for your response.

TV essentials is the equivalent of Mixit TV, which is the package below Mix TV. Anytime chatter is the new term for Talk More Anytime and is the same package.

If you have any further queries on this, please don't hesitate to contact us.

    Regards,
    Daniel

  • Hey orangejuice,

Welcome back to the community and thanks for taking the time to post.
I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re having with your new contract negotiations and the experience that you've had, that is far from the experience any customers should be having when speaking to our team.

The two packages are the same but the names have been updated you will also provided with a new TV360 box to replace your current box.

    Kind Regards,

    Steven_L

Thanks for replying but I’ve been reading through some previous posts on this forum and it seems as if tv essentials does not have as many channels as the tv mix I have now, although I realise that this is an old package/name. Can you confirm whether this is the case? I cannot find a list of channels for essential on the Virgin website.
As far as the “poor” experience with the team, is there nothing that can be done by yourselves because the person I spoke with was really not interested in helping at all and after 4 attempts I just cannot see the point. Customer loyalty really does mean nothing. It’s a shame because I’ve been with what was NTL and now Virgin for many years

        Hi orangejuice,

You can compare the V6 TVGuide here should be ok the same for a TiVo, to the 360 TVGuide here essentials makes it sound like it will be the mixit channel package on that list unless they have have introduced something new.

Depending whether you wanted the conversion to TV360 or not, there's nothing in that package that requires it. If you wanted to remain on the TiVo-platform, you would need to call into VM to request this.

Conversions are voluntary, save where a package includes Paramount+ or Disney+ which are TV360 exclusive. But if this specifically mentions it, and you accept, then the migration would be included.

Can you record/pause live tv/rewind on the TV 360 just like Tivo.

Unfortunately that’s 5 phone calls and one online chat about this now so don’t bother people. No decent discounts to be had for loyal customers and I’ve heard this from a few others as well who have tried but to no avail. Must be the new work ethic - give them nowt.

When i had my v6 tivo box replaced with the 360box  , i found it terrible, you could not pause, for more than 5 mins, and you could not access the 6 tuners, so no pausing of multiple channels, while watching others, on v6 box we could switch between tuners easily, and the TV control app also allowed us to watch recordins from our box on my pad, mobile and screen share on my big tv. THIS IS NOT AVAILABLE ON THE 360box

Yes, with caveats. Live TV and recordings can be paused, rewound and recorded exactly the same way.

One major difference is that V6 buffers live TV on all 6 tuners. TV360 only buffers on the live channel and any you're recording.

The comment by bigguy283 about TV Control functions not being available is only partially correct - on TV360, the control functions are provided by the TV Go app. The reference to 5minute pausing may be confused with the 360-mini box which doesn't have a hard-drive and is indeed limited, but the master-box is not limited by this.

@ Japitts   As i said , the TV GO app . does not have the full functions of the TV Control app , and that is the deal breaker , not being able to access your recordings on your box and play them on ,another TV by screen sharing them from your android device!. And the series link editing is also very good on V6 box. etc. ALSO having your box on giving you 6 channels (your most or last used) always buffering recording in the background was so usefull, when you changed channel , you could rewind for 90 minutes if you wanted to,.

Just an update. After 6 calls and one online chat, went for the online offer of broadband, tv360, tv essentials and anytime chatter. However, on the new contract there is no mention of tv360 or has there been any contact regarding installation date for the new box etc. I did screenshot the offer as we were going through the acceptance steps. Having read the previous comments though, I’m not sure I’m bothered.

Thanks for getting back to us orangejuice,

Regarding the accepted deal, are you still looking for the TV360 specifically?

      Let us know,

Your voluntary choice to convert to TV360 is totally separate from whatever bundle contract you've taken.

If you have TiVo boxes, those are hardware-swapped to TV360. If you have V6, they are software-converted including an HDD reformat. Photos of the boxes are at https://www.virginmedia.com/care/tv-fault/which-tv-box

The two software platforms are substantially and fundamentally different, so do your research before requesting what the marketers readily call an "upgrade".

Hi. I just thought we would automatically be “upgraded” to the TV360 as that is what the new deal included.

Japitts we are ok with the TiVo box we have at the moment. Is it worth getting the new one? I’m a bit clueless when it comes to tech stuff.

A V6 is a clear upgrade on a TiVo - the hardware is much newer. A TV360 is different to a V6 - think Apple being different to Android, if you were able to choose between them on the exact same handset.

Comparing TV360 to TiVo is therefore 2 substantial changes - much newer hardware but substantially different software. Only you can decide whether those substantial differences are worth it, there's plenty of past threads on the subject which you can use the forum's search function to find. The migration is a one-way process.
