Moved house and given unexpectedly high bill
Hello,
So in August 2024 I took out a 12-month student virgin media m350 contract for 36.99 a month and recently moved house in June 2025. I spoke on the phone and it was agreed that it would be moved over with the same contract continuing, so I would keep the last couple months left on my contract and my bills would stay the same, plus any moving charges, with my plan being to change to a different contract after the 12-month one had ended.
However, I was surprised to find out that my first bill at my new address was over £100. I thought maybe this was both months advance plus a moving fee so I didnt think too much of it, however my next bill says I will be charged £70.
On the virgin media website, i can see that even a gig1 12 month contract is only £29.99 a month and so I feel very confused.
Upon checking my account, it says my contract has been restarted after the move for another 12 months at a monthly price of £70 which is very wrong. I cant even cancel it because the early cancellation fees will be extortionate, even though I didn't ask for this.
I don't ask for much, either return the contract to the bills it was before or allow me to completely terminate this contract, as I cannot afford to pay such a high bill every month.
Does anyone have any advice or experience in a similar situation to mine? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
