Is the sales guy that knocked on my door legit?

A very nice sales guy knocked on my door. He had a Virgin jacket on and a tablet and shared that Virgin have recently updated the service in the area and was discussing switching to VM. Seemed too good to be true and no ID or van visible. Though he did seem to be going door to door. Gave me a slip with a Virgins logo and a mobile number, QR code and website thing on it.

The field sales reps usually have a VM- branded company car as well.

  • Thanks, we'll get this looked into right now.

Did you manage to find out if this was legit or not?

  • Hello TheeFish,

Welcome to the Community, and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums.

Please can you send me a private message with a picture of the card that the sales representative left you? We can then get this looked into further for you.

    Kind Regards,

Field sales agents are a regular source of complaint on here. Often this is because the deal that was promised is not what comes through and the agent becomes uncontactable once you are signed up.

Door to door salesmen are fly by night agents.  Order online so you are quite clear of what you are agreeing to pay and for what service and so your name and email address are correct.

Do avoid the common situation of email gets entered in error and price billed to your bank a/c is way more that was ever expected.

Caveat emptor never applied more than with VM's commissioned door to door sales force.

  • Yes, VM do have door-to-door salespeople.
Yes, they have tablets with deals available.
Yes, they leave contact details if you accept them.
The nice guy should have shown you his ID and that was the first thing you should have asked to see if not offered.
