Contract Renewal - Netflix standard included or not?

I'm coming to the end of my current contract (currently Ultimate Volt bundle including TNT Sports and Netflix Standard) - Virgin have offered me a renewal deal at more money and no TNT Sports (which I'm not keen on).

When I click on "view my package" however, I have an alternative option to "Choose this deal and keep your current Virgin Media plan without losing anything" at a pretty good price - but the contract documents don't mention Netflix at all....anyone able to clarify whether I would still have Netflix Standard if I simply renew as per the website - I'm loath to sign up and then find I either lose Netflix or else have to pay extra to get the ad free version....

    On our wavelength

There have been many, many posts on here from people saying they accepted an offer of "keep your current Virgin Media plan without losing anything”, only to end that TNT has gone missing, Netflix has been downgraded to be with ads, and excuses of ‘sorry but we can’t offer TNT anymore - not our fault guv’, and ‘well Netflix with Ads is the new ‘Standard’ (well as far as we are concerned)’ so tough.

I can only assume that not enough people have complained to the ASA about this blatant misadvising.

I can promise you that you will absolutely will be put on Netflix with Ads, and lose TNT, and will cost you more money!

  • Thanks for your reply. I actually think it's far worse than mis-advertising - I'd suggest what they're doing amounts to fraud - or at least what would be legally described as 'sharp practice'. Whichever it is, it's a disgraceful way to treat their exisiting customers......

      Hi Gaspode64

      Welcome to the Community Forums.

Sorry to hear of your concern about a deal that you've seen that does not show Netflix being included in your package still.

We can see on the systems on our side that you've since been speaking with the team regarding this, they'll be able to look at other current deals that might be more suitable for you should you still need.

TNT is no longer inclusive in our TV packages and as such, our TV package has been changed from Maxit TV to Mega TV. TNT would be an add-on with an extra charge which would make up the monthly amount.

Please let us know if you are having any further issues or have any questions at all. We'll be here to help on the Community Forums if needed

Thanks but I'm afraid that doesn't address my concern - there are two key issues:

        1. I've been offered a renewal including TNT Sports but no mention of Netflix at all - despite the offer stating "Choose this deal and keep your current Virgin Media plan without losing anything" - pretty unambiguous wording, but the contract that VM have sent does not reflect this offer - this is dodgy on VM's part from a legal perspective.

        2. No-one seems to be able to clearly tell me whether I'd get the same Netflix Standard I currently have or if it would be downgraded to the 'with Adverts' version - I was told on chat that VM no longer include the Standard version in any of their packages, yet I can see a number of packages on offer that do include it....

The whole situation is a mess and needs to be clarified as I feel that I'm being deliberately mislead (which most certainly is illegal).....

  • In case anyone here is in a similar situation, I've just been told by one of the team on here that if I renew, I should then be able to add Netflix Standard (Ad-free) for an additional £4.99 - while I'm still deeply unhappy that VM see fit to misrepresnt/lie about the renewal offer, that at least provides clarity on what I should get if I decide to renew.....
