Box on inner wall

Hi

We have an old telewest box (tekewest printed on box) on the inner wall of house by tv (that the ethernet cable used to come out of).  If we went back with virgin just for broadband would this box be used or would an engineer have to upgrade it as it may affect the speed etc? If yes how would this be done? The ethernet cable came out the top of it (it's roughly 20-30 years old).  Some advice please thank you

Post a photo of the box please.  It may be a phone socket as you are thinking it's  an ethernet cable?  The old Telewest / NTL boxes are still used as the co-ax cables are still the same as years ago.  As the property has had a connection in the past, you will be offered a Quickstart kit as standard.  If you really want a technician to install, you will have to ask for this at the time.

Sorry I'm not at home at min.  I've found  online, it says "telewest broadband in blue" on box about 6" long with connector.  I can vaguely remember when it was fitted it was put on "upside down" so connection is at top but would hv been at bottom if fitted right (think it was something to do with couldn't fit if connection was at the bottom no room/skirting).  It had white cable which I'm sure was an ethernet cable.

        Hi Anonymous

Welcome back to our forums and thank you for your query. To best look into this for you, when you are home, are you able to take a picture of the box so we can have a clearer understanding of your current setup and best advise? Please get back to us when you can.

        Thanks,

Yes, if the box is too low, then they can be mounted "upside down" to avoid the skirting boards.  However, the white cable would be co-ax, not ethernet.
