Billed after leaving Virgin Media

I think I am in the same boat let me explain my situation.

I was paying £22-25 for my contract which goes up to £59-65 thereafter - this is for an 18 month contract which ended on 14th October 2024. I called around 4th Oct to inform them that I plan to cancel my contract shortly after the 14th. I switched over to another provider officially on 22nd October and today I received a final bill of £64 ... Billing cycle is 15th Oct to mid November... I only used virgin media between 14th Oct to 22nd oct. Am I in the wrong here to assume I should not have to pay £64? Shouldn't I only be paying the 7 odd days I used virgin for? Let me know if you need more info

  • You need to give 30 days notice regardless of whether you are on an 18 month discount or a rolling monthly full price contract.

Telecoms contracts in the UK - VM included - are not fixed-term ones that end on a particular date, the logical extension of that would be service automatically ceasing.

What you have is a rolling service contract with a minimum-term. Until & unless you explicitly give 30days notice to cancel, both your service and billing continues.

Separately to that, if & when you give that cancellation notice, your billing will continue as normal until your services are disconnected. Within 45 days of that point, you'll receive a final bill that - in most cases - will have credits on there for unused service.

What therefore matters in your case is.. what was the date your services were terminated? What was the date on the bill you've just received?

14th Oct the 18 mnth contract ended. 22nd Oct terminated and switched to another provider. Received a bill for £64 on 9th oct with a payment to be collected on date of 24th Oct.

Bill received for 65£ CR on 28th oct

As far as my account goes they took £64. Then I get an email saying I have £65 in CR or credit. But didn't get any money back. Should I expect money back or did I mess up at some point
