Asking to stop the contract after the minimum period

Hi all,

My "minimum period" is set to end on the 16th April 2024. I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I have been caught out in the past by Virgin Media's contract wording that if I do not let them know at least 30 days' before the minimum period ends, that I do not want to be transferred onto the rolling contact then I will be moved onto the rolling contract and most likely pay double the price.

As per section N in the contract, there are only two ways that I can notify Virgin Media to let them know that I do not want to continue my contract after the minimum period:

1. dialling 0345 454 1111 from any phone (for information on how much this
call will cost from a Virgin Media home phone visit virginmedia.com/
callcosts. Call costs from other networks and mobiles vary); or

2. writing to Virgin Media, Sunderland, SR43 4AA.

My question is - can I write to them or call them now (January 2024) to notify them that I do not want to continue after my minimum period? I'm confused with the "at least 30 days" wording. I read that as I can let them know now that I do not want to go beyond the period.

I know I could just call them now but they have a tendency to steer away from the question and upsell me so I thought I'd reach out to the community prior to calling them.

Thank you,

  • Hello Kapil.

Thanks for your first post and welcome to our Community.
Sorry to hear you are leaving us when your contract expires.

Anything we can do to persuade you to stay?

Regarding the 2 options to leave.

Calling can get a bit busy and like you said. Our retentions team will be there to help and offer you a new deal, But if you have made your mind up already it would be best to put the notice in writing.

You can send this dated exactly 30 days before the end of contract and the team that processes the disconnections will take the date off the letter.

It is always advisable to send this recorded delivery as you have the safety of knowing it has arrived. Plus the fact that our Postal Service is a bit hit and miss right now.

I hope that answers your questions?

If you need anything else, were only a message away.
