April 2024 price increase - installation in March or April

Hi

I had a VM knocking on the door last week and offering me VM broadband - which is new on the street. I have agreed to join in at a set price, but I am/was wary of April 2024 price hikes so I also delayed the installation until sometime in April.

Does anybody know where I'd stand if I get my installation in April, ie will I avoid the price hike for 12 months until April 2025? I will probably just cancel if that was the case.

The salesman was also quite insistent that VM would not apply a price hike in April if I haven't had the service for at least 3 months - ie he was suggesting that even if I got my installation in February, I would no have a price hike until April 2025... does anybody has any experience on this? I have checked the contract wording but I don't seem to find anything specific, so I think VM would still increase the price this coming April.

Thanks

They will say anything to get a sale.

There was a time when the antics of these payment on results pedlars brought such disrepute on VM that they undertook to stop using them. It would seem that the desperation to obtain custom in the face of improving competition has kicked in again. The main thing is to remember not to conduct any business via the pedlars private personal mobile phone even if the call can be recorded for use as evidence further down the line.

The April increase will always be applied to new contracts and to renewals unless you have it clearly removed in writing.

OK - so it sounds like the 'minimum three months' is sales fiction.

What isn't clear to me yet is when the contract starts. Is it from the very moment you have agreed to get the service, or when the service gets intalled? T&C's state that you have a 14 days cooling off period from the latest of those dates. So, if I got the service installed in April 2024, it is still is unclear to me whether I will get a price increase in April 24 or April 25 or both!

The contract and cooling off period start as soon as the installation is completed, connected and working. Price rise issue as per reply by jpeg1 - unless negotiated separately and confirmed in writing. If it should be an issue in the future the first thing VM will say is do you have evidence of this agreement so we can 'help' - translated as prove it or pay up..

  • I've just renewed today and was told that as it was a new contract there would be no price increase this year and that my first increase would be April 2025. I queried this and the agent was adamant and said all calls are recorded and if I had any issues the call recording would prove my case.

Just to point out that brand new customers do indeed skip the 2024 price hike according to the website deals page.

  • Hey HadrianSmith,

Welcome back to the community and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. I’m sorry to hear of the confusion that you're having with your contract, I would be happy to take a further look into this for you but first I would need to confirm a few details via private message, please look out for my message and we can get started.
    Kind Regards,

Hi @Steven_L, I was hoping for some advice please. If I took out a broadband deal today but pended the installation until after April 1st 2025, would this still be subject to the price rise in April 2025 or because the service is to be installed after the annual price increase it would not be subject to it in 2025? Thanks

        Hi mdvdman,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us via the Community. It's lovely having you on board with us in the Forums.

When booking an installation, this can only be booked up to 60 days in advance so it would not be possible to delay the installation from now until April.

The price rise is standard across the board so if taking a service now, you would see an increase in April.

Let us know if you have any further queries or questions.

        Thanks,

    Hi HadrianSmith

Looking at the wording on the VM websites sales pages, https://www.virginmedia.com/tv  new customers won't be charged the annual increase until April 2025.

"Monthly price of Virgin Media’s main services and O2 Airtime Plan will increase each April from April 2025 by the Retail Price Index rate of inflation announced in February each year plus 3.9%. "

Also from the 2024  https://www.virginmedia.com/help/prices  (price increase page)

"However if you have recently joined or recontracted and we have informed that you that your annual price rise will take effect from April 2025, you will not receive a price rise in April 2024."
