Re: 08000525306 spam or real

Following a review of new customer deals on the Virgin website, I was also contacted by this number 0800 052 5306 to discuss my Virgin options. They requested my name and address etc., and then requested I set up a password and provide bank details over the phone so I put the call off until I could look into it further as they had called me 'cold'.

Could you please confirm if this number is legitimate as there are comments on the forum saying it might be a scam and then others saying it is a genuine Virgin call.

I have not signed up for anything yet and was put off at having to set up a password and provide bank details over the phone. I also received follow up text messages from 'VirginMedia' and a return contact number provided is 0247 538 7200 (screenshot attached).

Please advise.

Thank you.

  • Hello James191

Thanks for your first post and welcome to our community.

Apologies that you have had to join here to get some clarity on the above numbers.

The 0800 052 5306 is legitimate and will be our outbound sales team.

When you enquired about the service online, After entering your postcode and contact number there is small print under the contact number box which reads.

"By entering your number, you consent to us calling or messaging you (via text or WhatsApp) about this search and personalising your online experience. For more details please see our Privacy Policy."

The text message you received asking to call Alex on 0247 538 7200. will be off the back of your enquiry.

I'm sorry if this was unexpected and panicked you.

But I would just like to reassure you both numbers belong to us.

    Hope that helps.

  • Confirmed by Retentions Team that this number is NOT an official Virgin number and should be treated as a scam.

Apologies for the confusion Tomtom1234, that number isn't a Retentions number but is for one of our outbound sales teams who contact customers who have made an enquiry via our website, as explained by my colleague Gareth.

  • this number has called me 2x a day for the past week. I First answered Friday 22nd November 2024 and ended the call as it did not sound legitimate at all. I have then had 2 calls a day for the last 7 days which I ignored up until yesterday 28th November 2024 when I answered and told them to stop calling me as I have had enough. Then today, I have received another two calls, again I have told them to stop calling me. Either its scammers or Virgin media are incapable of following both verbal requests to stop calling as well as my account which also listed not to be contacted.

Update: further call from the number again just now. I've been reluctant to block the number as it's supposed to be a legitimate virgin media number but I've had to block it now. The amount of calls is beyond a joke.

  • This number won't stop ringing me late in the evening. It's boarding harassment! I am unable to change the settings on my account to request no sales calls are made to me. I've reported this. Virgin Media don't seem to care.

  • Can these bloody people stop calling. I block loads of virgin media numbers and they always ring. I am happy with what I have with you guys. If you continue to harass us with calls from foreign call centres I’ll have no choice but to switch at the end of  contract.
