Cannot report an email I received to Virgin because it 'is virus'?

This is quite ridiculous, three emails reached me just fine, through the Virgin servers, all are obviously scams so I go to report it to phishing @ virginmedia.com - and it cannot be sent, because it 'is a virus'....

If you can detect it, why did you even let it come to me and how can you ever hope to be alerted to these, as you ask us to do, if you block reporting them to them you? Radical idea, but if you are sure it is a virus, don't send it on to your customers.

  • Was going to edit that since there might, possibly, have been a couple of valid email addresses shown, but I can't seem to find any edit options for posts...

      Hi Robertlain,

Thanks for coming back to us on this one.

When trying to forward any emails to phishing@virginmedia.com, if you get an error, it means we're already aware of the email and have taken steps to ensure the email is blocked on our platform.

The teams do work hard to identify any spam/scam emails but we do rely on our customers reporting them to us. You can ensure you're staying safe and protecting yourself by following the advice here.

      Many thanks,

Thank you for that explanation, but there still remains a problem - the way you are preventing this being forwarded also means I can't report it to the UK legal authorities via phishing @ gov.uk

        https://www.gov.uk/report-suspicious-emails-websites-phishing

"Report misleading websites, emails, phone numbers, phone calls or text messages you think may be suspicious."

At the very least this address should be whitelisted, or Virgin seem to be preventing people doing what the authorities specifically request we do.

  • Hi there RobertIain 👋 Welcome back to our forum and thanks for your post 😊

Sorry to see there's been some confusion with these emails. When a virus check is done on the email the email address and subject would be looked at as part of this check. Due to data protection the contents of an email aren't checked. However it may be that when you sent this to us, this was then detected.

We'd advise making sure all virus checks are available to ensure everything is kept safe.

    Regards

    Nathan

Rather disappointing, since this particular email has now arrived with me several times,

My virus checker, and for this one simple common sense, mean it's never going to be opened, but it is very disappointing that this sort of stuff is not stopped before it hits your customers, only when we try - and fail - to let you know it is going on.
