Can anyone please help? Potential phishing email for a pod?

So I got sent a text message today talking about a deal on a free pod to boost my wifi and to check my emails. I did this and found an email through my phone. As a precaution, I messaged the Virgin team on my laptop in case it was a phishing email.

The advisor told me that the email was not a scam but the offer is only open to people who have an extra 1GB deal which I do not have, therefore I cannot have the offer. After explaining that the email says I can have a free pod she then said it was a scam after I opened the email link and entered my surname and postcode.

I phoned Virgin and it appears I have ordered a pod.

The email came from the address mailto:smartsupport@account.virginmedia.co.uk

When I enter this address to check if it's legit Google tells me it's most likely a phishing scam address.

The original advisor was not willing to apologise for telling me it's not a scam and could not see my issue so I'm very confused and very annoyed.

Is there anyone on here that can please confirm whether this email address is legit or not as if not then I need to tell Virgin.

Thank you

  • Hello Whippet75

Sorry to hear of the confusion caused by the texts and emails received regarding a Pod, we appreciate you letting us know via the forums and welcome to the community.

We appreciate you making us aware of this, we have reached out to see if this email belongs to a specific team and once we hear back we will let you know. Apologies for the confusion and frustration caused.

  • Just to update you on this, we have had it confirmed the email received is legitimate and sent from us, these are sent where poor wireless network signal is indicated when standard checks are completed on a connection.

Please feel free to follow the steps in the email and order a Pod.
