020 3743 6971 - Is this a VM phone number or is this scam number

I got a call today from this number who knew my (old) contract with VM had just ended and wanted to offer me a special discount.

I said I wasn't sure who they were and rung off.

Is this a genuine VM number / number of an agency sub contracted by VM.

If it is would definitely be interested in being offered a special discount (as loyal customers never get as good a deal as new ones)!

Thanks

      Thanks.

Yes I saw this on various web sites reporting scams but ....

Last year / 18 months ago, I got a call from a number that began 020 3743 69## (last 2 were different from today's) and got a very good deal. That earlier call came because I had logged a complaint. And this call comes after I made a complaint.

In which case I would be very happy to get some sort of a discount on my package in compensation for the issues I have been having.

Just didn't want to give my full details to a caller who wasn't able (or not trained to say) "I am calling on behalf of VM following your complaint of  ## July 2024 )

Just came back to say that after a bit of googling I saw on a MoneySaver forum that the number 020 3743 6950 is linked to an external agency (Colt Technologies) but operates what VM calls their "Retention" service.

So am now wishing I hadn't put the phone down on the number listed above as I may have lost a good deal.

As far as I can make out you cant ring them back, or you wait so long on the line, you just get the other person has cleared.

For anyone who wants to make a note the number I got a call from 18 months ago that lead to a good deal was 020 3743 6950

  • We got a call from 02037436972 claiming to be from Virgin Media. It sounded suspiciously like a scam so we rang off (and put a block on the number).

As we then checked when our broadband renewal was due we realised that it might have been ' genuine. It would be typical of a Virgin operation to outsource their admin to what seems to be some shoddy external provider. I spoke to Virgin direct and got our renewal at what seemed quite a pretty reasonable price.

I've never manged to set up online access to the account as I'm not going to spend an hour on the phone waiting for 'technical support'.

The trouble is the more customer orientated providers like Plusnet, Sky  etc are not providing Full fibre connections for another 18 months in our area, and their 'part fibre' connections that we've had have never been able to achieve anywhere near the 'typical' speeds quoted in their adverts.

(P.S. Just don't get me started on Virgin Money)
