Apple Private Relay

I’m new to Virgin Media and having a few connectivity issues. I’m notified several times a day that Private Relay is not active then will activate and so on throughout the day. Is there a compatibility issue? Does Virgin have built in security that does the same job?

    Welcome to the Community Forums.

Sorry to hear you're having connectivity issues.

Do you find this happens on certain websites? Is it only your Apple products with these connectivity concerns?

Apple Relay prevents websites from seeing your IP, like a VPN. Having a VPN or Apple Relay can affect your internet speed to the device.

Hi, thanks for your welcome & reply!

We mostly use apple products - phones, iPads, computers so difficult to tell but streaming to the tv is mostly fine. Have been reading a little more on the subject and it seems that we’re not the only ones with this conflict.

We have the option to turn off private relay altogether or just for the Virgin network. This is a shame as I appreciate the added layer of data protection that this service provides. Although I know that the Virgin network comes  with its own privacy features I don’t think its at the same level.

I should also add that we were with Sky for many years before and never had these issues.

I get this as well, but not too often.  I've never worried about it to be honest.

"Having a VPN or Apple Relay can affect your internet speed to the device. " Apple Relay does NOT slow your internet speed, there would be hundreds of of thousands of complaints to Apple if it did. It’s just VM who don’t want you to use it.

Dose it happen if you use another DNS? or with the hub in modem mode and another router?
