It's happening to more than one of my accounts too, most can receive, one cant receive, none can send. Probably another mass hacking attempt that they'll not tell anyone about. Re: How do I change my email password Yes, this is poor design. Built and Tested by Monkeys. https://support.google.com/mail/answer/56256?hl=en-GB will show you how to set up a Gmail account. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365-life-hacks/organization/how-to-create-outlook-email-account describes how to create a microsoft (live/outlook) account. Apple users it's a little less straightforward but not bad. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/icloud/mmdd8d1c5c/icloud I mention these three because most people would likely use a Android or iPhone, and if they have a computer it would likely be Apple or Microsoft (OS) based so the above slots in good with what you may have. After you set up a new password on your Virgin Media account you also need to generate a new Virgin Media APP password - Because Virgin Media have copy and pasted your old password into other systems (Monkeys). If you do find all of this too bad and too much hassle you can phone them and they will set a password for you over the phone - But AFAIK they will not change the APP password, you could try because I would expect someone in VM Land to eventually learn how to do something. They call it an APP password because it's a external Application - This is really confusing using a term like that when people think of APPs as something you get on your phone. Re: Virgin media to Mozilla Thunderbirds Mine was failing a LOT yesterday. It's worse than that in fact, the web emails and the imap emails were different (Sync Issue in VM?). One phone wouldn't receive anything (would show up to date), One PC would connect about 50% of the time, Web was different again. It's broken - staff must know and are just assuming it's user error thus it's never broken and hence they never have to admit they have seen any errors.... So anyhow, It's crazy that they made an email account require a different email account to log in (You cant reset your password without setting up a new email account - another totally idiotic move, honestly I am being as nice as I can to say VM are Idiots). I went through it yesterday and made a new Gmail account so I could log into VM, after changing passwords and resetting app passwords everything SEEMS to be Syncing again this morning (Though I know some things are still not showing up). So just set up a new account with another provider and make those changes - You are going to need another email soon anyhow due to the fact that this service is not really reliable enough for important emails and VM wants to completely shutter the service. Re: Not recieving Microsoft Verification emails Just received the "first one". First Email (Microsoft to Microsoft) started here. Thu, 25 Jan 2024 13:21:42 +0000 So it looks like it was held up in the microsoft servers (VM Blocking connections or a Microsoft problem). Received: from NAM11-BN8-obe.outbound.protection.outlook.com ([40.107.236.40]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 256/256 bits) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx5-prd-nl1-vmo.edge.unified.services with ESMTPS id *****************; Thu, 25 Jan 2024 18:04:40 +0100 Then it took another 5 mins (the time many 2fa Keys expire in!) to make it through the spam checks. Received: from dcdir9-prd-nl1-vmo.nl1.unified.services ([100.107.82.65]) by dcbe31-prd-nl1-vmo.nl1.unified.services with LMTP id ****************** (envelope-from <account-security-noreply@accountprotection.microsoft.com>) for <******@ntlworld.com>; Thu, 25 Jan 2024 18:09:40 +0100 Fun Fact - If you disable the SPAM settings - It still has to pass through the spam check. Re: Not recieving Microsoft Verification emails Don't keep requesting codes, it will eventually lock you out of doing more request for 24 hours. VM - Contact - Resolve ...... They are killing off their email service, so perhaps that's why it keeps getting worse and worse (Not to mention this "App" password thing that makes it impossible to know if someone else is accessing your account). As this MIGHT have been a Microsoft problem (I keep getting timeouts on all of VM servers) then there's a good chance the networks team (If they get notice) will just ignore the support request. The 5 min processing delay is a big problem and honestly as it's exactly 5 mins then I can't help but think this is by design (perhaps it pools incoming emails to build scam data *shrug*), but I have turned off spam filters, added email addresses, set up forwarding rules, and that 5 min delay isn't going away. Re: Is this identity fraud or theft? HIBP data doesn't normally share Assocaited Name/Addresses. Go get the data straight from them (HIBP webpage), If the Name is not associated with a company leak then I wouldn't put any more thought into it, sometimes the aggregation of stolen data contains errors as they try to form links. Bob.Vila@Mail.Com might tie in with Repairs.99@Othermail.com so if it see's Repairs.99@Yetmoremail.com then a link can be formed (and, be wrong) Re: NTLWORLD email hacked That doesn't actually change his password :/.......... The Idiot who designed this "App" Password system should be fired (Tho I imagine they got a big bonus and left), and staff need to be trained on what it is. OP should phone VM, have them reset the MAIN password on the phone (they will ask what you want it as, use something generic), once done then log in and change it AND reset the app password straight away too. Once that's done they need to log into WebMail and see if any forwarding rules have been set up - because even if they never used webmail, hackers may have logged into it and set up forwarding rules - sadly the poor security at VM towers makes it impossible to judge how bad things really are. Re: Not recieving Microsoft Verification emails I am seeing this too. Tried on two accounts. Their Spam Filter seems to eat a lot of mail and then spit it out after hours upon hours of processing. We have an account (Not Microsoft) that requires 2FA and they cant change the email because - for months now - we cant get the 2FA code before it expires. Microsoft was working for me last week but it's fubar now. Re: Email down AGAIN this morning!!! Mine too, but they seem to have come back to life. I do wonder if they have been hacked again - but lets face it they never admitted the last one was hacked either - Just that lots of people didn't secure their emails correclty at the same time the hack took place ;P... Re: IPv6 support on Virgin media With the Upcoming changes to contracts coming up in November a lot of people may migrate to a new service and get IPv6 just out of luck. I have given up on it being pushed out - VM clearly has no intentions to roll it out until they are forced to.
