Will be hanging onto that as long as there is still a Freeview signal, hopefully by the time that goes someone will have hacked Freely TV to allow recording (or they'll actually have released official recorders for it, but I'm not holding my breath). Re: TiVo or Stream box Streaming boxes, whether by VM or Sky, enable you to watch previously broadcast programmes by Catch-Up or On Demand Some programs, not all the channels have streaming apps and even the ones that do, not all the programs appear. As I understand it, the F1 races and football matches do not appear on catch up, or if they do it's a few days late (which is odd as the official F1 app has the races available on demand from the moment they start, it's just not available here). Plus, as has been mentioned, often unskippable ads and a limited timeframe to watch the program. And of course, the streaming services that replace live TV are generally available for free anyway, so absolutely no need for a Virgin TV subscription. There is mention of bringing streaming subs together, but unless you want all the services 12 months a year, you're better off dipping in and out. Re: TiVo or Stream box Yes, the TiVo\V6 boxes are no longer available. Stream is the default now and in some areas the only option, I believe the 360 box is still available as an upgrade with a £50 installation fee as long as you're not in one of the areas using the new network (I think that means you have a Hub 5x). The 360 is not as good as the TiVo\V6 (missing a lot of features) but it does allow recording so is better than the Stream box. TBH if you're stuck with Stream only I'd just get the internet and not bother with the TV, you can just buy a FireStick\AppleTV or similar and use that to stream instead rather than having to pay a monthly sub. Re: Enough is enough!! He also said this would be much improved having the 360 & 3 Apollos as opposed to the V6s. He was incorrect about that, you'd have 6 recordable tuners instead of 24, 1TB of storage space shared across all boxes, instead of 4TB with individual boxes having their own recording pool (with the 360 the whole family's recordings would be lumped together). The 360 is also missing a large number of features that are present on the V6 software, such as undelete, wishlists and many more. Re: TV box having broadband connection issues Is it definitely a V6 box, rather than the older TiVo box? I would guess that at 5 years old it would be a V6, as pretty sure the TiVo was phased out long before that, but just in case, the TiVo has a curved top whereas the V6 is flat. The V6 has to have either a Wi-Fi connection or ethernet connection, so if you don't have an ethernet cable it must previously have been using Wi-Fi (and the reset will have lost your wi-fi settings). When you say you can't access anything, what do you mean, no live TV? Or just no access to on demand and apps etc.? Some of what is described sounds almost like a failed switch to the new 360 software, have you requested that at all? Re: Recordings disappeared this morning all my recordings and planned recordings have now disappeared. Any idea why this has happened? Yes, and you've hit on the reason yourself... I have a 360 box Re: Recording Yes, Virgin seem to have decided to exit the TV market and now just supply a streaming stick with an unnecessary subscription charge. Might as well ditch the TV part and just use the Firestick (or AppleTV etc.) Re: Stop auto play of next recorded episode Change your default option to add fifteen minutes to the end of recordings. The prompt will only appear if there's been a delay in broadcast start time. Which wastes a third of your recording space (for a half-hour program), there really should be an option to switch this feature off (or just not having it in the first place). It also doesn't only happen if the program was delayed, if it did the end of the program would be missing anyway, the option appears before the recording has finished. Re: Stream box only As far as I know you can still get a 360 box but I must tell you that I had SkyQ previously and now have the Virgin stream box and to be honest with you I think that the stream box is better. The picture quality is an improvement and even though you cannot record I find that you can get anything you want by simply adding them to your watchlist and you can still fast forward through the ad breaks. To me it is an improvement on Sky and it won’t be long before everything is streamed anyway. If I wanted to be stuck streaming stuff (with a stupid amount of unskippable ads) I could just get an Amazon stick or AppleTV, no point in subscribing to get that. The benefit of a recorder is that you can skip ads, it keeps everything together in one place and you can watch it whenever you want, you're not forced to watch it in the small time window before it gets removed from the streaming service. Re: Record in standby If recording is important to you, I would also look into the differences between the boxes, the 360 is missing a lot of recording related features compared to the V6, many of which are unlikely to come to the 360 either due to being TiVo patents or just disinterest from VM (people have been asking for un-delete since the box was released for instance). Some of the missing features are as follows; Quickplay (play 10% faster with audio), Wishlists (where you can set the box to record programs on certain subjects or featuring certain people), undelete, series link+, suggestions, setting of series links for programs not in the current TV guide, ethernet control, keyboard support via USB, turning off the mini-preview screen while browsing menus, switching between tuners with constant buffering, skip-back on fast-forward, default recording options, cancelling individual recordings from a series link, multi-channel series links, radio channels allowing recording of radio, separation of recordings between boxes, watching recordings when internet is not available and probably a few others I've forgotten. Also, extra boxes do not have their own hard disks or tuners (unless converted from a V6 box), so you lose storage space and recording ability and are also reliant on the main box being on to watch and set recordings and also on having a decent wi-fi signal (or ethernet cable) between the two boxes when watching recordings. If the boxes are used by independent family members i.e. older children living at home, then there is also the issue of recordings being pooled across all boxes, so everyone's recordings are mixed up, rather than being separated. This also means that if there is a show that both people watch and one person watches and deletes it then it is gone for the other person as well, and can't be recovered due to the lack of undelete.
