Re: Contract options and switching to stream Unfortunately sky stream does not offer what I need from other channels as you cannot select them for wishlist. None of Virgin's current systems offer Wishlists, that is a TiVo patented feature so was only on the V6 and TiVo boxes, and is not available on the 360 or Stream. In regards to the sports, I believe the Stream boxes from both VM and Sky are quite limited in what sports are available on demand, so if you're not watching live then probably not as good as a proper recording box. Possibly you could just look at subscriptions to NowTV, F1TV and\or Discovery+ on a streaming box? Depending on which sports you want to watch. Re: TV 360 box all recordings deleted That Humax box does look really interesting, and I have been keeping an eye on it, but I have a horrible feeling that the recording is only going to be for Freeview not Freely (it has an aerial socket, so looks like it will support Freeview as well as Freely). So not really any better than the Freeview recorders available currently, and still subject to the same issues with services potentially being shut down, which is depressing. I currently use Plex for Freeview recording, with backup from an app that will "record" from iPlayer (though it's not the most user friendly), but obviously that only works as long as the Freeview broadcasts continue (or for BBC content). I'm hoping that Freely recorders will appear, but I suspect that if they do, they will not be quite as official as the Humax box. Re: What is the point of a stream box? Instead of recording just use My Watchlist in the same way, you can still fast forward through the ads on many of the shows there. It doesn't work in the same way; many programs are available live (and therefore recordable) that aren't available on demand, so can't be added to the watchlist (or if they can, they can't actually be watched), you cannot fast-forward the adverts on ALL programs, you need a working internet connection to watch things and anything added can only be watched for as long as it remains on the on demand service, which varies by provider. Re: V6 box won't record since 360 upgrade It's been more like 5 years since the 360 box was first released in the UK (and the system has been around elsewhere for much longer), so it's not a shambolic release, just a poorly designed system. Although, on the plus side, at least it's better than the Stream box which is now replacing it. Re: Stream upgrade I believe you can have just Stream boxes these days (in fact in some areas, you have no choice) and I think that is the way VM are heading generally. However, if you only have Stream boxes and no 360 box you lose the ability to record, so have to use apps if you're not watching live (with unskippable ads etc.) and lose access to time-shifting of any channels that do not have apps available, for instance, I think some of the sports channels can only be watched live and the programs are only available on demand with a Discovery+ subscription (at £30+ per month). So I guess the big question is why you would want to get rid of the 360 box. Re: TV360 Lost All Recordings I think basically we'll be stuck with Freeview (for a while longer), with an optional streaming device if you want the paid stuff (NowTV for Sky stuff, F1 TV for the Formula 1 etc.) . The Humax Freely box looks interesting, but I very much suspect that it will be a PVR for Freeview that just has Freely streaming built in, rather than actually being a Freely recorder (especially as the EE PVR won't even let you really record BBC\ITV stuff from Freeview and instead takes you to their streaming apps when you try and play back a "recording"). I'm hoping that someone may create a proper Freely PVR at some point, but I suspect it won't be a totally legit option! It's all very annoying, have had to buy Chinese releases of some films recently as they seem unwilling to release them over here, and I very much doubt those are official releases (even though they cost as much) Re: Early hours recordings The V6\TiVo box will attempt to record the first showing of a program that it can, obviously this is usually (but not always) be the main evening showing. Is it possible there are multiple other recordings going on in the evening that prevent it recording at that time? You should also be able to check the "Recording Hiccups" menu to see why it has not recorded the evening showing. Re: What is the point of a stream box? It seems like it's only really a benefit if you watch live TV, as you get slightly more channels than Freeview\Freesat, which feels like stepping back in time 25 years! But if you don't watch live plenty of things are not available on catch up, and most of those that are, are available for free on apps anyway. On Freeview, you can of course still record, so depending on which channels you actually watch, if you don't watch live then you may get more content available, plus you can FFWd the ads. The 10% discount on streaming services also doesn't seem like much of a draw as it works out more cost efficient to stop and start subs as required throughout the year, whereas I think with a lot of the stream ones you're tied in for the full contract length (and if you can get any of them on a monthly basis at a discount, then you have to deal with VM's systems\"customer service" to cancel). Most of the streamers also offer discounts for yearly memberships anyway (i.e. Disney gives 2 months free), I don't know if the VM discount factors that in. Re: "Your tv box needs an uograde " My comment was more related to the switch to Stream entirely, obviously if it's alongside the 360 then you've still got the recording facility (to a basic level), so using a Stream box makes more sense. Stream on it's own though doesn't seem to offer anything that isn't available through other devices, you've got the same (well, better) range of apps for catch up (and I believe in most cases those include live TV for the ones that have live channels, if you still watch that). If you want sport then there's NowTV (which offers the same Sky Sports content as the Sky Sports app I believe), or the apps such as TNT Sports. As I understand it, a number of the sports services on the Stream box don't actually have catch up available unless you subscribe to the specific apps separately, so if you don't watch live then you're stuck. I think even for Sky Sports, a lot of the football matches and F1 races do not appear on catch up on Stream.
