I've waited a while, and not seen any change, I don't know when to expect a change. The IPData provider has a web form to request a change. But when I try to access this I get a note: "To correct the geolocation of IP addresses that you own or operate, please send a geofeed to support@ipdata.co. Note that we do not currently make corrections for individual IP addresses." Suggests that I can't request my individual IP address correction, but I don't know what the range is, or if others in the range are allocated to other places in the country; I don't understand how it works, this is why it feels wrong for me to be requesting it. What's to stop any individual messing up the Geolocation of someone elses IP address. How are update requests validated? Re: Re: On-going Complaint - IP different location No, it must be VMs issue to resolve. It's not my data that is the issue, it is their infrastructure and the changes they have made to IP address allocation. It was working before they made a change, and now it doesn't work and causing me issues. They could provide another new IP address that works, or reach out to the relevant GeoIP company. I don't know who that is. For those that say it doesn't matter, it does. I have had banking transactions rejected as suspicious, activity related to my account in Liverpool, requiring additional verification that it is really me. Re: Re: On-going Complaint - IP different location Virgin changed my IP address and now when I use facilities it gets my location wrong. If there are other external services that provide geo location mapping to IP address, it's virgin that should be correcting it, as they manage the allocation of addresses to end users. Or give me another IP address that does report the correct location. What external agency is going to listen to me? How do I know who to contact? Re: Re: On-going Complaint - IP different location I was thinking that applications may attempt to choose a server that is close in proximity, eg. like the speed test website. It thinks I'm in Liverpool, so it chooses test servers to connect to near there. Re: Re: On-going Complaint - IP different location I tried some speed tests again today, from my desktop PC. www.speedtest.net defaults the test server to one in Manchester. I tried this, and a few servers in London and Bracknell (which I used to connect to automatically). The results show higher pings (idle and whilst downloading) for Manchester, with London servers having much less lag. On my phone, I guess it picks up location from GPS, rather than IP address, as it automatically defaults to a local server. So my internet usage in games where ping is important can be affected, and anything location based (google maps, etc). I tried to run a traceroute from the Hub 5 admin tools, but it didn't work for either of those IP addresses you suggested. Re: Re: On-going Complaint - IP different location My IP address was changed automatically for me, which occurred around 02/05/2024 23:30. Previously when I looked up my old IP address, it was correctly associated with Farnborough area. My new IP address + default gateway IP address is associated with Liverpool, which is incorrect. This is affecting the quality of my service, for the last 2 weeks. Re: Re: On-going Complaint - IP different location IP Address changed a couple of weeks ago, and it's been reporting incorrect address since then. How long should I wait before complaining? Yesterday when I used a SpeedTest website, it was reporting better pings and lower jitter for servers based around Liverpool, instead of servers located closer to my physical location. I assumed this to be because traffic was routed to the gateway, located in Liverpool. "glfd" = Guildford. So that seems good. But IPToLocation still reports Liverpool. Re: Re: On-going Complaint - IP different location 82.4.125.n Default gateway = 82.4.124.1 Re: On-going Complaint - IP different location I am having the same issue. I discovered last night that my assigned IP address had changed, and https://whatismyipaddress.com/ indicates that this IP address is associated with Liverpool. When I run Speedtests, it chooses servers around Liverpool, rather than the London based ones I used to get. It seems my packets are being routed through a gateway in Liverpool, as I get better latency pings when I select servers there, rather than servers that are local to me. I believe this is causing increased lag in online games. Websites looking up my location based on IP address believe I am in Liverpool, not Farnborough, Hampshire. Everything was fine a week ago, but it's changed for the worse, and I dread having to go through many hours of useless "technical help" on the customer support line. I've tried resetting the Hub 3, etc.
