ContributionsMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Hub 5 / 192.168.0.1 / Change IP range I don't remember any such issues with changing the LAN IP network and I've had a hub2, 3 and 5, are you looking in the Advanced Admin section? Re: Broadband Cancellation: That appeared easy... I was told this a few days ago. My end date was 8th Nov but for some reason carried on until the 30th Nov so I got billed for another month, queried this and eventually they agreed to credit me back but as now according to the system my end date is the 30th I won't actually get the credit back until I think the 16th Jan 2024! Re: Why I'm strongly considering leaving I cancelled and moved after something like 27 years. Losing the email was a biggie but I just got a new gmail address and over the month notice period slowly moved it all over to the gmail address. Does sound daunting at first but I’ve used BitWarden for years so it was a case of searching for the ntlworld email stored in BitWarden, logging on to each site, changing the email and then verifying, it was a chore but having a record in BitWarden it turned out to be easier than I thought it would be. All have now been transferred except 2 which are airline membership cards, no idea what is happening with these to be honest. I now have a service that doesn’t drop WiFi 5-6 times a day which my Virgin service was doing. Only advice from Virgin for the connection dropping was to cable up, pretty damn difficult to cable up all our mobile phones, tablets and laptops! Re: Leaving VM after something like 27 years Quick update in case it helps others Encountered my first sort of issue. I have CCTV installed and can access it both via a VPN and being naughty via port forwarding. Out over the weekend I noticed that I couldn’t access it remotely via port forwarding. Got home and checked the config and it was all there. Did some reading and it seems that CF use CGNAT on IPv4 so as you’re effectively sharing an IPv4 address you can’t port forward. Looked over at their website and not a single mention of this so called them and they confirmed that port forwarding would only work on their 3gbs package. Lodged a complaint which they are reviewing as I had called them before signing up and told them how I use the internet but this wasn’t pointed out. No real big issue per-se and port forwarding does work on IPv6 but the issue there is that not all mobile networks support it, certainly O2 doesn’t which is where my wife’s mobile has ended up. Apart from this no other issues. Not a single WiFi disconnect for the week that it has been installed and I have now discovered that I can’t get signal at the bottom of my garden now, that was covered by Virgin pod so will have to look at getting a repeater to cover this off. Re: VirginMedia Retentions Offers When I gave my cancellation notice I got a call within a few days offering me 125mbs for £22 with no home phone, was paying £19 and having seen posts on hotukdeals where somebody was recently offered 250mbs and home phone for £18 I declined. I then spent the next few weeks reading and researching what I could actually replace Virgin with. I then called retentions one last time asking what they could offer, £29 was the reply so straight after I logged onto TopCashback and signed up for a deal with Community Fibre which was installed yesterday. My contract with Virgin terminates on 8/11 so plenty of overlap for any teething issues but only a day into it I’ve now moved everything in the house over to the new Community Fibre Internet. The Virgin hub is still running but later today I’ll pack it up ready to be shipped back to Virgin. Re: Why do we tolerate how Virgin treat their customers - us? I’ve recently jumped ships after some 27 years! For me personally, although I was a loyal customer that loyalty didn’t seem to work both ways. I was sick and tired of having to ride the re-negotiation merry go round where the outcome could never be guaranteed. You would think that Virgin would be aware of something called the Internet where customers post the good and bad. I had seen plenty of posts from others online about the mega deals they had been offered but I never ever seemed to get offered them. Also I thought the practise of offering cheap deals only to new customers had been stopped? Anyway a few months ago Community Fibre cables up my road and having got sick of the Virgin merry go round I signed up and they just yesterday connected me up and so far my experience with them has been positive. Granted I’ve only had it running for a day now but to date no WiFi disconnects that we were getting with Virgin 5-6 times a day. I was dreading the change, probably as I had been with Virgin for so long and it can be worrying, I was using ntlworld emails so had to change all of these over which was a hell of a chore going to each site and updating my details but I also used this opportunity to do some tidying up and resetting of passwords, so another hopefully positive outcome. Re: Leaving VM after something like 27 years Community Fibre Engineers turned up today, looked around and said I'd need a hoist to get the wiring installed, my 'oh dear the install will be delayed' sensor started tingling as I've had stuff like this from Virgin Engineers before! But my pessimistic side needs to be lowered just like the ultra low ping times of Community Fibre 🙂 Saj called somebody and 15 mins later a van with a hoist appeared, they listened to how I wanted it cabled outside and inside, tidied up and left. Nice, easy and simple and I'm now posting from the new Community Fibre broadband. Initial impressions? 1) Their router seems to have way more coverage, I'm in my furthest point on the ground floor typing this, with the Virgin Hub3 and 5 this just wouldn't work without a repeater in between. 2) I can now disable uPNP, hoo-ray, port forwarding just never worked for me with the Virgin hub 3, never tried with the 5, unless the rule had been added via uPNP, any port forwarding settings that I added would simply disappear. I think I posted about this here way back when, didn't get a solution so was forced to enable uPNP. 3) Their router supports DDNS which is handy, I currently have this configured on my Asus repeater which fires a Cron job in the repeater to fetch and update my actual internet IP, I can now do this within the router. 4) I've read that this router also support VPNs, I'll be honest I've not found where yet so this could be incorrect but if it does then another plus point as again I currently do this in my Asus repeater which results in a complicated config. Early days, and I full well know and understand the statement 'the grass is never greener ....' but so far I'm actually impressed, will be sure to post a grumble as and when it all goes pie eyed 🙂 Re: I’v asked to cancel my virgin membership, for 2days have been shunted from pillar to post and still not j This is really surprising, when I cancelled earlier this month I didn't have any such issues at all, just told them I wanted to put in my notice, was accepted and then later that day got an email to confirm. Try calling and going through to the I'm changing address which then allows you to select I'm thinking of leaving, that's what I did. Have to agree though it is a major PITA, took me over 40 mins of being on hold before I spoke to somebody. Early days but I just last week signed up to Community Fibre, had a query and got through to their CS within minutes and they answered my query there and then, maybe too early and too small a customer base but there again I'm easily impressed 🙂 Re: Leaving VM after something like 27 years Just signed up for Community Fibre, 150Mb at £17.99 for 24 months, so I’ve taken the plunge head first. Install date is this coming Friday so a good 10 or so days of overlap to compare. My old hub 3 developed an issue, it was an old dog and since I’ve had a re-furbed hub 5 and WiFi within the house is just poor, it seems to disconnect 5-6 times during the day coming back 3 or so mins later. Been trying to get this resolved and just got sick of it, especially when the advice is to hard wire, how the hell do I hardwire mobile devices?!? Re: Has anybody else noticed that nobody has a positive thing to say about Virgin Media. It's human nature though isn't? I don't come here and post to say my service is running fantastically, which it isn't by the way but do come here to post when there are issues. So all we see are post after post of issues, some of which can be an interesting read 🙂
