Well I hope so anyway. Might be related to a certain SH2ac trial right now. Then again it might not. I'm not on the trial so can't say for sure one way or the other. I would have expected small internal trials of IPv6 in Q1 and large public trials of IPv6 in Q2 in order to give Virgin time to fix any problems before rolling out IPv6 service "by the middle of 2017", but we didn't see that happening in the APNIC statistics. That's not how VM run their trials. Look at the Hub 3 as an example. Two months max of public trials and then shove it out the door area by area. Ignore feedback and (maybe) fix things later. Perhaps that's not how VM does things and we're in for a Big Bang release instead, without prior ramp-up in IPv6 usage counts from public trials. We'll see. Public trials are relatively small scale. It's area trials where you'll see a ramp up, when it happens. Indeed. I really hoped VM as the last big ISP in the UK without IPv6 would finally get moving now. The excuse "we have enough IPv4 addresses, therefore we don't need IPv6" won't work for much longer, as IPv6-only services are starting to appear and their number will only increase. Should VM be looking for early adopters to test the IPv6 rollout, where would one sign up for this? All trials are registered via the Survey Monkey form here: http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/News/Community-Trialists-Wanted/ba-p/3325894 Re: What are you watching now? What does it do? Oh, nothing much, same as before - gives you access to the whole internet. The users will just go back and say that IPv6 ruined their internet, roll it back NOW.. Virgin never tell you what has changed with their network, so IF they roll out DS-Lite in the future it will most likely be done silently. The potential fall-out would be similar to what has happened in Ireland: http://www.boards.ie/ttfthread/2057598420 Re: IPv6 support on Virgin media Optimist1 wrote: This is interesting... http://scpro.streamuk.com/uk/player/Default.aspx?wid=40805&ptid=1066&t=0 That's the Oct 2014 1st UK IPv6 Council meeting, with info that's a couple of years out of date. Re: IPv6 support on Virgin media Morgaine wrote: MUD_Wizard writes: > "As long as you don't mind that information only flows one way." I wouldn't mind if the flow were one way as long as it was a flow of *substantive* information, for example a regular blog post by the IPv6 team. That's why I didn't prescribe to admins what they should do, but all I requested was that they help set up an *effective* channel of communication, leaving the details up to them. Ah, no. That would be nice. Unfortunately it's incredibly hard to get VM to acknowledge even the simplest of things publicly or even privately. I meant if you don't mind information flowing only into VM, not out. e.g. They do like their surveys. A dialogue would help there as well, and it can't be one-way because not many will provide feedback for long when it's clearly going into a black hole that nobody is reading. Some kind of ACK is needed at minimum, hence dialogue. Re: IPv6 support on Virgin media Morgaine wrote: MUD_Wizard wrote: > "Community admins have very little say in company strategy" I'd be very surprised if they had any at all. I've worked in some large UK comms companies (network admin and developer) and that's not how they're organized, it's typically very hierarchical and partitioned by function. Same here. But where Community admins have enormous say is in establishing communications, as that is their corner of the organization. It would be beyond belief that in VM their job description is to block customer needs from reaching the ears of product teams and higher management --- I don't believe that for one instant. And so my request is for a channel of communication, which is well within spec. As long as you don't mind that information only flows one way. As a communications company, the one thing that VM are very poor at is communicating, without going through several layers of lawyers first.
