Re: What happens with my email address at end of contract? theyoungsavage wrote: My contract is coming to an end in the next couple of weeks and I forgot to ask the operator what happens regarding my (Blueyonder) email address? Do I have access to this address after the contract is ended? The address should be available for only 90 days after your account is closed. This period is a target which is often missed and the address may be available for much longer. Be aware that after 90 days the email address can be closed without notice. Can I pay to maintain the email account without having any other services? No, VM do not offer this service. Or do I have a period in which I have to change the contact email on all my various accounts and contacts? As noted above, 90 days from closure of your account. it's best to migrate to a new address as soon as possible, remembering to backup and save all important emails and contacts from your VM email account. Re: CANNOT LOG IN TO MY EMAIL Do you have a current Virgin Media broadband account? Only those with an active VM account are entitled to use a VM provided email address, see here:- https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Orphan-Email-accounts/td-p/3492073 Re: Virgin.net email You stated in your original post that you are not a current VM customer/account holder, and therein lies the root of your issue. Have a look at this "sticky post" which should explain all you need to know: https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Orphan-Email-accounts/td-p/3492073 I doubt you'll be able to have your email account reinstated to full working order. VM staff may be able to grant you temporary access to back-up your emails and migrate to another email address, but that's a big "maybe"! Re: Loss of Virgin.net emails LenaBond wrote: I don’t have any Virgin services. I just have a Virgin.net email address. There's the rub - no Virgin Media services means no entitlement to use a Virgin Media provided email address. Virgin Media do not now provide an email address to any new customers, "orphaned" email accounts (no associated VM account) are being deleted and only old customers still have access to legacy email accounts. It's highly unlikely you will be able to have your email account reactivated unless you are really lucky. Re: Moving home = new contract Refer to the Virgin Media Terms and Conditions: https://prod.ctassets.virginmedia.com/uploads/Terms_and_Conditions_TV_Fibre_and_Phone_FROM_01_MAY_2023_as_amended_21_July_2023_v2_11ec03ff26.pdf Section O, Paragraph 2:- If you move to another address within our service area, you may ask us to provide the services to your new address. You must provide at least 30 days’ notice to do this. Section O, Paragraph 5:- Where we have agreed with you to continue providing the same services that you received at your current address to your new address and this is during any minimum period, then that minimum period will continue at your new address (e.g. where your services are on a 12 month minimum period, if you move during month 7 of your minimum period, the remaining 5 months of your minimum period will apply for those same services being provided at your new address). Where we have agreed with you to change the services you receive at your new address then a new minimum period may apply for those services and the service start date for that new minimum period will be the date that the equipment is installed at your new address. Therefore moving home within an existing contract period to a VM serviced address while retaining the same services, your existing contract should continue. Moving home within an existing contract period to a VM serviced address but changing the services, a new contract will have to be agreed. Re: Blueyonder Locked out my account. If you're trying to backup historical emails prior to migrating to another email account it may be worth having a look at this post in the Forum archive https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Forum-Archive/Backing-up-your-Emails-One-of-many-solutions/m-p/3539542 While the post is an old one (September 2017), the mail archiving program mentioned is still available and free to use for home users. It's available for download here: https://www.mailstore.com/en/products/mailstore-home/ Re: Blueyonder Locked out my account. @coenoby, My apologies for jumping into this thread without considering that email client access may still be possible without having to use a 3rd. party email address and an app password, as stated by Virgin Media. I was not aware it was still an option to do so, but you live and learn. And why am I not surprised that the implementation of this new system is not fully effective? Re: Blueyonder Locked out my account. Accessing VM emails through an email client (such as MS Mail) now requires a separate app password, created by following the instructions below:- To get the password, follow these steps: Sign in to My Virgin Media a. Go to Account settings, then Account details b. Tap Manage next to Manage your Virgin Media Mail app password under Virgin Media Mail c. Then, under Virgin Media Mail app password tap Generate new App password and follow the instructions. A new secure password will be generated for you. Your app password can be used for all apps accessing your Virgin Media mail address. If you create a new app password, you’ll need to update all your existing apps with the new password. Source - https://www.virginmedia.com/help/broadband/manage-email-account The main difficulty is that your account is a VM business one which does not provide any associated email addresses. In fact VM do not now provide email addresses for any new broadband accounts, business or residential, and as such you may not be able to create an app password at all. Unless Virgin Media are able to provide you with temporary access to your old email account (unlikely) you should prepare yourself for the total loss of your VM email account and its contents. Re: Virginmedia.com IMAP server setting for outlook You should take a look here: https://www.virginmedia.com/help/broadband/manage-email-account under the section How to set up my Virgin Media email on a device Setting your app password to use an Email app. If you want to access your Virgin Media emails from an app, you’ll need to create a separate app password through Account settings on My Virgin Media. To get the password, follow these steps: Sign in to My Virgin Media a. We need to give you a separate app password to help make things more secure as IMAP and POP don’t support extra protection steps, like Multi Factor Authentication. Remember that this password is separate from your sign in details for My Virgin Media (or any Virgin Media apps). So, if you need to check your Virgin Media Mail emails through My Virgin Media or at mail.virginmedia.com, you'll still use your My Virgin Media password. Connecting your Email to a Client App All Client apps are slightly different but to set them up they’ll take you through a list of settings and require you to enter your Virgin Media email address and Virgin Media Mail app password. The settings you need are: IMAP settings (recommended) Host Name: imap.virginmedia.com Username: your full Virgin Media email address Password: your Virgin Media email app password Advanced settings SSL Encryption: Enabled Port: 993 (this may be automatically chosen by selecting SSL encryption) POP3 settings Host Name: pop3.virginmedia.com Username: your full Virgin Media email address Password: your Virgin Media email app password Advanced settings: SSL Encryption: Enabled Port: 995 (this may be automatically chosen by selecting SSL encryption) SMTP settings Host Name: smtp.virginmedia.com Username: your full Virgin Media email address Password: your Virgin Media email app password SSL Encryption: Enabled Port: 465 (this might not be selected automating by enabling SSL, so please check) Authentication: Password
