For years, ever since I've had my ntlworld id the username has been firstname.lastname with the email id in a separate field. Used to fail if I specified th eusername in Outlook as the email id. I've just had to change the username to be the email id and the server now accepts authentication again......... Possibly a change in Outlook?...... Regards Steve Re: Virginmedia Mail system - POP3 server Thank you. My ntlworld account set up on Outlook using the POP server stopped receiving on Friday around 11am. Account and password OK on other devices using IMAP. and logged in on VM webmail. Regards Steve Virginmedia Mail system - POP3 server Is the POP3 server down? Send/Received failed late on Friday Morning and hasnt been available since. This usually indicates Server failure as I havent made any changes to the Account settings which were working OK Regards Steve Re: Loss of Email - F010762348 But the few folders I did have on online webmail are still there if I log onto email on the Virgin site... Also the Archive Folders. The folders also appear on my Windows 10 mail client, account set as IMAP.... But some folders, including the Archive, were only populated when I changed the Acount Sync settings to 'any time' instead of just the 'last 3 months'. The Inbox gets updated continuously as the setting is to download as they arrive. Hope that helps Steve Re: Loss of Email - F010762348 Looking at the comments re the loss of Email folders on the VM server logins (and IMAP?) I'm rather glad I still use POP to Outlook 365 folders, all on my PC!! And we did discuss what happens to emails which were sent while the VM Servers were down... Hopefully that will just have caused an initial failure message back to the Sending server which will have tried again after a specified interval. Increasing said interval for subsequent failures then finally deciding sending is not possible and notifying the originator by email back to their system. Re: Loss of Email - F010762348 Interestingly at one time Gmail 'behind the scenes' ran Virgin email services. THus I still have an old Gmail folder on the stack when I log in to my Ntlworld id. With just some old Sent items; latest from 2017. Now, the SMTP server for my ntlworld Id seems to be working. I've just sent one to another of my ids which made it The Incoming (IMAP and POP) servers are I assume where the problem lies. Does anyone know if the Archive storage counts towards the Quota (25Gb) quoted on the VM mail page? Re: Loss of Email - F010762348 So, having got something working yesterday it seems the Servers stopped again a little after 2300. I got one email at 0446 today but nothing since. And I see the moderator updated the first post on this thread an hour ago. I just hope they haven't lost any incoming!! (cf Eric_T and my last posts.) Steve Re: Loss of Email - F010762348 So, as we have 2 large gaps in email receipt times….. in my case from around 2300 last night to 1300 today and from just before 1400 to 2030 today I take it some of the servers sending mail will have failed to send and retried. If they finally timed out (see Eric’s post above) I take it they will have delivered an ‘unable to send’ message to the originator. Not sure if that gets recognised at the sending end in the case of automatic mailing lists? However hopefully all mails have got through, or failed with notification to the originator and none arrived but got ‘dumped’ before delivery due to the server fault? Steve Re: Loss of Email - F010762348 So, looking at the Posts on Various threads... I seems the VM Email issues started late last night but all Customer Service did if they were asked was to send the call to an office which doesen't work at the Weekends. And didn't call email support in. Looks like the problem wasn't picked up till the start of the working day this morning. That looks like non existent Support. Re: Loss of Email - F010762348 On the How to Manage my Virgin Email page is a blue button titled "Sign in to your email account" It all goes wrong from there!!
