Hi everyone, I’ve been having problems with my virgin 360 mini where it keeps turning on (mostly at night) but turning the tv on with it. On the 7th of July at around 2 in the morning the light on the box turned red (the light was off beforehand and is usually that way when the box is off). A few minutes later it turned orange and then another light (I think the connectivity light) flashed orange beside it. That light stop flashing and turned off but the orange light stayed on. The tv then turned on showing the welcome in different languages screen that usually shows when you restore power to the box. The box then turned back off with the light on it turning red again, leaving the tv on the no signal screen. A few days prior to this, it turned itself on in the daytime but without the lights flashing and it just showed the normal channel screen. Now I’m not sure if it’s the box or the tv or hdmi cable as I did change the hdmi cable a few months ago but haven’t had the issue until now. The only other issue I had with the old one is that if you turned the box off before turning the tv off, the tv would turn itself back on around a minute later, however I haven’t been able to replicate that problem with this new cable. I’m thinking this could be to do with the hdmi cec feature however one power is off in the box settings and there’s no setting for it on the tv. The other thing that I can think of is that the virgin remote is paired to the tv for the volume control and things, so maybe that has something to do with it? I’ve heard you can get adapters that disable hdmi cec too, if that’s the case i will definitely get one. The last resort would probably be changing the tv as there is a spare i can use. If somebody could help with this I’d appreciate it so much as I’m having the constantly plug in and unplug the box when needed and I’d rather just keep it plugged in. The box turning itself on might have to do with a weekly update / restart? Do they restart every Sunday at 2am?
The tv is a cello however I don’t know which one but I think it’s a hd 43/42” one with a dvd player if that’s any help
Thank you

Hi I think I’ve managed to resolve it - it doesn’t have any problems at all if you turn the tv off then the box but if you do the opposite if there is any signal coming from the hdmi at all it turns the tv on
Thanks for the help everyone

I had a similar problem (one of several) when I changed to a new TV earlier this year. The problem turned out to be not the 360 box, but the settings on the TV itself. It only turned itself on when the TV was set to start immediately from stand by. When I changed this to a slower start up, this problem vanished. In the end, it was a simple fix, but it baffled me for some time.

I don't have that settings on the actual tv but there is a setting on the box where you can change the power saving modes. Its on active start currently so I could change it to eco mode? I dont know if that'd make any difference however it might stop it from constantly being on - even when the box has been off for a while the hard drive / fan is still making noise

I've just upgraded today & it's doing the same ..... randomly turning my TV from standby! My TV is Hisense. I'm not sure how to get round this other than completely turning off power?

Hi JPG031,
Thanks for posting, and sorry to see you're having some issues with your TV.
Can you confirm if you've tried the advice in the thread- if you turn the tv off then the box, does this make any difference?
