Anyone know if this is compatible with the Virgin 360 box?

Hello,

I"ve got the new Fire TV cube too.

Similarly, I haven't got it to work with the TV 360 box.  My cube does show an option for Virgin Media in the devices list though.  I have tried this, but it doesn't control the box.

I'm hoping that since the option appears in the list, that Amazon intended it to function, and ultimately it will have to operate as advertised.  Maybe I'm being over optimistic.

Incidentally, I have a (failing) Harmony remote control.  To get this to control the TV 360 box it is set up as Ziggo Mediabox Next.  I believe that there are Arris and Humax codes that also work on Harmony remotes. I tried to set up the 360 box with the Fire TV Cube by calling it Arris, Humax and Ziggo, but none of these options worked either.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has managed to get it to work, and how.

Here's hoping.

You're right, they have now added in a longer list of providers, and virgin media is now listed. That said, it still doesnt work. ;-(

Frustratingly, I have had to factory reset my cube simply just to be able to experiment with updating the cable/set top box options when my VM hdmi cable is plugged directly into the cube.

When you connect your HDMI cable directly to the Cube, it walks you through the task of setting up your setup box so it can be controlled from the cube. However, after it fails, it doesnt seem to allow you to walkthrough this same settop box set up process. Instead, you're forced to remove the hdmi cable from the cube and connect it to the TV. YOu're then able to go into Manage Equipment and try setting up live TV (which in turn asks if you're setting up cable or settop box). And still, no joy, but at least i'm not having to factory reset the box.

All in all, i've found it a pretty frustrating experience. I have wasted over an hour on something that should be v basic. I've also contacted amazon support and it was embarrassingly bad.

I don't think i would recommend the cube to anyone - its expensive, and doesnt do what its supposed to do out the box.

I have a Fire TV Stick 4K Max and I can see that the Cube offers nothing better regarding support for 4K resolution and all HDR variants, but the Cube on paper can also control your lights, thermostats and other devices without the need to first connect them with an Amazon Echo speaker. If I wanted to get hooked into the Amazon ecosystem I'd have to get that speaker.

Hello.

Try going through the procedure, but tell the Cube that your box is a PACE receiver.  After the  eighth or so "try again" , channel up will work.  You can then use voice commands to change channels etc... .

The channel names refer to the full shared programme list, so it won't get the right channels if your box is on a personal list. If  you use your personal profile list, say the channel number.

However, on my system, I find that when the cube switches the cable channel, it will switch my receiver off sometimes.  Hopefully there's a fix for this to be discovered.

My box is actually an Arris box, upgraded from the old system to TV360.

It's clearly not ideal, but does show that the system can work, if Amazon put the correct codes in the "Virgin media" section.  Here's hoping.

What's the make and model of the receiver?

Hello.

It's a Sony STRDN 1080AV receiver. This switched off randomly when changing channels.

The cable box is an Arris DCX960.  This is the one that I've set up as PACE in the cube to get voice control to work.  Voice control will power this box on and off too.

Cheers.

That Sony supports HDCP 2.2, so it's not obvious why there is a problem.

Hello.

Thanks for your thoughts. You're right. It is all supported, and now works properly.

It was just a dodgy HDMI cable. I changed it for a new one.

So to sum up, if the box is set up as manufactured by PACE, it seems work perfectly.

Everything functions as it should from the cube remote, or as voice command.  You just need to say "On cable" after the channel name.

Eureka!

Cheers.

I find that the channel names are way off for my region (EH8 in Scotland)

....if i ask for bbc one (101), it gives me 108 (BBC Scotland, which is a channel that only operates a few hours each day, its not BBC One Scotland 101).

If i ask for E4, it gives me E4+1

....if i ask for STV (Scottish TV, the main ITV channel up here), it gives me 951 (which isnt listed as a channel, and so it find the nearest channel number which is 968 (an adult entertainment channel). A request for ITV (in the mistaken belief it only understood national channels, gives me 734 (Childrens ITV)

This would be bad enough, but the icing on the cake is that sometimes the request takes about ten seconds before the number appears on the screen.

Can i ask what town/city you're in - i'll try a postcode from that region and see if i get better results.

thanks

Hi @jerezo

Say "101" and it will take you to that channel (BBC  1)  Say "103" and it will take you to that channel (ITV1 here in England)

If I say "E4" it takes me to the correct channel, as does saying "106", I have the Maxit bundle on my 360 box which takes me to the HD version on 106, although if your package doesn't include the HD version it should still tune into the SD version on 106.

If I say "E4 plus1" it takes me to 146, the +1 channel.
