Looks like MS is back to its old tricks again inflicting new 'features' and settings on users.

This update saw a search bar spontaneously appear on the taskbar of my PC despite being turned off pre-update.

Upon rebooting W10 launched into the device setup screen requesting confirmation of privacy settings, setting up a MS account etc. etc. This can be stopped in future by going to Settings>>System>>Notifications and actions and unchecking 'Show me the Windows welcome experience after updates and occasionally when I sign in, to highlight what's new and suggested' and also 'Suggest ways I can finish setting up my device to get the most out of Windows'

KB5001716, recently installed, also seems significant in that this will start nagging/forcing updates to the latest version of W10.

Also read this week (unrelated to the above) that MS has now stopped allowing old licence keys from W7 and W8 to be used to activate copies of W10 on yet-to-be-updated hardware. Haven't tried this to confirm.

"Inflicting", dont you mean "infecting" :p.

Windows is basically a virus nowadays, causes masses of undesired operations. In fact Windows now performs more undesired operations than desired ones so it's definitely a virus in my eyes.
