Possible VN phone call, or scammers?

Knows their stuff

OK, had several calls on my mobile from 08001836416 over the last couple of days.

As driving, didn't answer first one, but did the second, and after a short silence, got a foreign, (Asian/Indian) guy, claiming he was from Virgin, and was calling about my account. Asked first for my email address??(I refused to tell him)  then he wanted my password. Told him that I wasn't prepared to pass that information over the phone, not all of the password, anyway. Asked him what the problem was, and he repeated there was a problem with my account. Asked him why he was calling my mobile, when VM usually used my landline, as mobile not registered with VM.

He then ended the call. Checked the number using 'who called me' and the information below is the result of the search!!

Now had several more calls from this number, so have blocked it. If this is a VM number, they need to be aware of the way their staff are behaving!!

If it's not a genuine VM number than they need to get it sorted...

H there @HughJarsse 👋 Welcome back to the forum and thanks for your post 😊

Sorry to see that you've been having calls from this number. It does look like a genuine number for our sales team, however the nature of the call you have described sounds odd for the team. This does sound like it could be a scam call as they can spoof numbers to make it look like it is a genuine number calling you.

Just to check, do you have marketing preferences unticked via your online account here? If you do continue to receive calls like this it would also be best to check out security page here for more help with this.

Regards

Nathan

Hi Nathan,

seems strange that there are so many negative reviews on 'who called me' regarding this number if it is a genuine VM one.

As for 'marketing preferences' they are turned off, and always have been, because I got fed up with persistant calls to 'upgrade' and 'special offers' from VM. If I want something, I will ask.

Have now blocked the number anyway, but just thought I'd give you a heads up on the fact it may be being used by spoofing scammers..

Hi HughJarsse 👋🏼.

Thank you for coming back to us, as I can see you are in private chat with one of our colleague. To avoid any confusion we advise to continue this with our staff member on private chat please.

To put the record straight, the private chat is about an entirely different matter, (home phone switchover, actually) and therefore nothing to do with this post regarding possible 'scam' calls I was/am getting from a VM number but possibly 'spoofed'

Two entirely different subjects..  posted for clarity!!
