Hub upgrade possible 1gb

Is it possible to pursue Hub upgrade, from Non Ax 4 to 5.

When I returned to 1gb I was declined as Hub 4 Is 1gb capable albeit Non Ax slower wifi.

I still have Nightwawk Ax router unused, though maybe Hub 5 could become possible?

Hi @Donfor40

Thanks for posting and welcome back to the community.

If you already have a Hub 4 router, we wouldn't currently be able to offer a hub 5 swap, this is because the current hub is more than sufficient for the speed you have currently.

Best wishes.

If you are out of contract, I would "negotiate" a HUB5 with retentions for free. Why should you pay for an inferior HUB4 when others get HUB5 for same service tier?

As I have described before the 2.5gbps port is useful for your own router and switches that are also 2.5gbps capable and you get around 1230mbps via wired which is quite an increase above the HUB4's max of 940mbps on1 1gbps port. The AX WIFI is also better than AC if you have device support. Been there have had the HUB3, HUB4 and HUB5 - though I use mine in modem mode. The HUB5 was better with SNR levels too from the coax so must have had a more sensitive tuner in it (HFC areas only).

Thanks I've no idea of contract terms now, though don't think it's past 1st year or 2.

I'lll re check as it's dissapointing using 'working'1gb without blackspots means No Hub5 option.

thanks another failed attempt, CS are advising once every Customer network is upgraded then they may reach a point of 'offering' Hub.5.

It's not immediate concern, though If I decide to make return to desktop purchase it would have been nice to add Ax Dongle in addition to xps+m.2 laptops.

erm, its not would be my answer back to VM, the WIFI on HUB4 is not as fast as someone else paying for GIG1 and getting a HUB5 as it has AX WIFI (v6) which is faster than AC (v5) would be my answer. Additionally, the GIG1 tier is over provisioned at 1230mbps (if signals are correct at the hub) and that offers opportunity of 2.5gbps WAN port to your own router which may also have 2.5 gbps LAN ports or better. They sell as GIG1, but with TCP/IP overheads, the maximum on 1gbps port would be 940mbps and still short of standard GIG1. With 2.5gbps ports, that goes away and somewhere around 1200 is possible on a good VM network segment that is not over utilised.

VM don't care about wifi or that 1Gb can go faster on 1Gb package the way they see it is 1Gb ports 1Gb package that will do said the monkey.🤑

Depending on what this upgrade is, you may well be issued with a Hub 5x with no modem mode. Be careful what you wish for!
