Email phishing

I’m getting a barrage of emails purportedly from me to fredschoor@ziggo.nl. I’m continually blocking each Mail that comes through.  A lot mentions McAfee, but there have been a few saying I have won something at Argos, and one came through as an order from Amazon.

I have noted they keep changing the beginning of the email address for example ynxkpjmywm@freecellenligne.com, lsmtkfsgxf@freecellenligne.com, lsmtkfsgxf@freecellenligne.com but all have my user name

Can Virginmedia stop themIMG_0704.png

If by "blocking these emails" you mean adding them to the Blocklist in your VM email account you need to be aware of the  two major limitations with that VM Blocklist function:

  1. It only works on the full email address not at the domain level. So blocking an email from "spammer1@somedomain.com" will have no affect on an email received from"spammer2@somedomain.com". That 's why spammers change the sending address at frequent intervals to beat such simple blocklists.
  2. But most importantly, adding an email address to your VM blocklist does not actually block the email address at all!  It just means that emails from that address get flagged as spam. So, they still arrive in your email account but are automatically sent to your spam folder.

Yes, that's been the case for several months.  It appears to be an issue with the setup of the Khoros software that the forum runs on. Apparently it's bring worked on.😉

I got the same junk recently starting to hit my inbox, everything from "You've won a Ninja air-fryer" to offers of free solar panels and McAfee account expiry reminders.  They all from the same domain address of freecellenligne, com but like yours all with various scrambled letters making up the sender's 'name.'  I reported the domain and numerous addreses to phishing@virginmedia.com yesterday asking them to block it.  Today, so far, I haven't received any.

I posted on here about it yesterday.

That doesn’t really answer original post or subsequent ones, even the question can’t VM do something about this.  I have been blocking these email for ages and the domains, yet they still arrive far too regularly.

Hi @NealE64

Sorry to hear you don't think the above support has helped with the query.

We do have features and filtering settings in our mail service but we aren't able to 100% block all spam sadly. There is a lot of information here on what we do in terms of helping to prevent for spam emails and what our customers can do to help protect themselves.

Here to help 🙂
