Hi Lee_R. I have had a virgin.net email address for about 25 years. I never had a VM account or service. I remember you used to be able to pick up a CD in a supermarket, load it in and pick an email address! Bottom line, every single person I've ever emailed has my virgin.net address as my contact detail - there is just no way on earth I can think of all those people/places/companies and let them all know I have a new email address!!

I don't even need to be able to log in to my virgin.net emails; as a precaution years ago, I set up autoforwarding to a hotmail account and I access them that way. Can't I just keep the nominal address and forwarding facility? I can't  even begin to tell you how stressful this is. Thanks

Surely you should be looking to get your emails out of virgin.net, I believe you can do this as a PST file (having configured desktop Outlook to add your Virgin.net email). You can then import the file into outlook.com.

What you should have done is to set up your own domain name and auto-forwarded to an email account.

Simple answer is no.  It would be technically unfeasable for Virgin Media to do this.

30 days is not sufficient time to contact and update a email address that someone has been handing out to people for 25yr. I would suggest 12 months would be sufficient.

That's unlikely - customers who have been with Virgin Media since the blueyonder days only ever got 90 days' notice.

30 days is more than enough time to get your existing emails saved to a backup file.  Once you've done this you can go through them at leisure and update those that need updating.

That’s the one, have you found out in any way whether this is genuine?

But I have not left! How can they do this?!

We do not have two virgin accounts, we simply hung on to our ntl addresses when virgin took over. But this is my virgin.net address they are threatening to close…ironically the one I’m signed into this forum with!

Or just leave it alone!

It’s not just about saving the emails, it’s about that address used to sign in to so many sites it’s just not funny.
