I got an email through from virgin offering £50 off the bill if I signed up, i had just signed up Customer service wouldn't add to my newly signed account and told me to just place another order and the first one would automatically cancel?
Is this the case or am I going to hsve two lot's

It's not possible to have two orders or connections at the same address. This sounds like an attempt to avoid giving you the discount. Virginmedia are full of tricks like this, be very careful what you get signed up to.
