Errors And Strange Speeds

daveeeh
On our wavelength

We have a wired network connection. It used to connect to the router at 1Gbps. Now its down to 100Mbps and has been for a few days. I have also noticed some websites taking a while to load or not at all.

Just wondered if there is an issue with errors or another problem perhaps?

My Broadband Ping - Roger's VM hub 5 broadband connection

Hi daveeeh

Sorry to hear of the broadband speed issues experienced, we understand the frustration and you taking the time to raise this via the forums.

From checking the connection and equipment, all of the levels look to be within the ranges and spec's we'd expect to see. Looking at the speeds available from the Hub they too show 546mbps download and 51mbps upload. The Hub was recently rebooted, have you noticed these differences since rebooting the Hub?

Let us know.

Rob

Hi,yes the speeds seem to be normal again but occasionally see some slow loading sites and/or downloads from places like Steam etc.

Is this normal for the uncorrectable errors ?

Hi @daveeeh thanks for your reply here.

So it's unclear if things have changed since Wednesday when my colleague did the checks, but there does seem to be an issue with power levels being out of specification.

I'd like to invite you into a PM so I can look to book a technician for you.

Please expect the PM from me to arrive shortly and respond directly when you can!
Many thanks

Did you drop from your OP of 1Gb plan?  However you should post all the power levels and network log.  Also setup a BQM and post the link to the shared live graph for comments.  www.thinkbroadband.com/ping

Do a speed test here using a wired connection direct to the Hub,  run the FULL tests.  www.samknows.com/realspeed

Post the results please.

Hi Tom, I have replied to your PM

On our wavelength

Had the engineer out today. First thing they said when they arrived were power levels were normal. I said yeah we had that before then they weren't. Lo and behold speeds dropped as he was here. They changed the bit outside the house, the bit on the inside of the house for the latest revision. Tested the cable. Went to the cabinet where an adjacent port was creating noise so changed that and still the same issues.

After a lot of testing he changed the Hub 5 for a new Hub 5, problem went away.

So far all good, the thousands of uncorrectable errors shown in the logs before are now zero have been since install so hopefully that will be that.

So after having the hub replaced all was fine for a bit but now seem to be back to the same original problems which are fluctuating speeds and connection issues. Here is the latest status from the modem :

The uncorrectable errors on the 3.1 downstream has doubled in a couple of days

Hey @daveeeh Thanks for reaching out to us. 👋🏼

We're sorry to hear about the issues with the downstream. 😞
We've had a look on our end and the results are showing a speed above 500mb/s.

May I ask if you have used Ookla or speedtest.net for your results?
Are you able to perform them and share the results?
You can also setup a BQM graph so we can see where dropouts are here.

Let us know what they say.

Kind regards,
Ilyas.
