Mesh - Router or AP modes

Hi All,

I have a wifi mesh network and I would like to continue using the Ethernet points on my Hub 3. Therefore, Access Point mode on the mesh network is my preferred option with the WiFi switched off on the Hub 3.

My question is, if I use my Mesh system in Access Point mode (rather than Router mode with the Hub 3 in Modem only mode), does this theoretically impact the stability/speed of the connection?

Thank you for your help.

Technically the router function in your mesh system may be more stable than the HUB 3.

Try it an see how you get on. If it doesn't work out set the SSID and password to be the same as your HUB 3 on the mesh system when switching to modem mode so you don't need to bother reconnecting all your wireless devices.

Our Hub 3 is in Router mode with network cables devices and two Wi-Fi Access Points & this works fine.

With the same SSID / Password used throughout WI-Fi coverage is seamless.

It shouldn't impact the speeds.

If you use AP mode, just set the SSID and Password to be the same. Try to connect the mesh AP's via Ethernet for best performance, but you can connect the AP's using 5Ghz / 6Ghz (Don't use 2.4Ghz if you care about high speeds etc).

If you use Router Mode, make sure you set the Hub 3 to Modem Mode, don't leave the Hub 3 in normal mode otherwise you will have DCHP conflicts etc. However, you will lose access to your ethernet ports with the hub in Modem Mode as then only the 1st port will work (Unless this has changed).
