So, had my hub 3 replaced with a hub 5 a while ago, and am now having problems renaming the connected device names.
On the old hub 3, it was simple. Click on the device that you wanted to rename, and a drop down box appeared to choose the items type, or to type in a name you wanted to identify it.
Sadly, this does not work on my hub 5, despite the 'info' tab stating it does. (To change the names of your devices return to the Home screen and make the changes by clicking on the device name in the Modem Status Overview.)
When moving the mouse cursor over any of the devices, nothing happens, the pointer doesn't change to a 'pointing hand' as it should, so it's impossible to change the device names...
Supposed to be a brand new hub but not as useful as the old one, apparently!!
[MOD EDIT: Subject title changed for clarity]

You are free to go back to the old hub as this may take years to fix
Or get a your own router with 1Gb ports with better support and put hub in modem mode

So basically, progress, but sadly backwards!! typical VM. (can I get a reduction in price for missing items that I am still paying for!! 🤣)
Hub 5 is RUBBISH, and worse than the hub 3 that it replaced. Hub interface is like something from the old DOS days!! (pen and paper is quicker than waiting for the hub response!) 🙄
Fortunately, contract is up in October, so might be time to move on, as there are far, far better deals out there now, with Cityfibre having been rolled out here a year or so ago.

Currently on M350, and have had 2 hub 3's both of which were 'probably refurbs' when my hub2 went awol, and therefore on their last legs anyway..
The hub 5 was all the 'engineer' had when he visited again, and was probably so fed up seeing me he decided to give me a hub 5, (probably knew the grief they caused, as punishment for his woes! 🤐)
Contract up soon, so looking elsewhere now, as not impressed with VM or its equipment(neither really 'fit for purpose)

Quick thought: Have you turned off all the WiFi Smart/Intelligent/Auto **bleep** settings? Then try renaming your SSIDs. Prolly a long shot.

I don't think he's trying to rename to SSID, but rather change the names of connected devices.

Oh!

Why VM even tried to add such a thing most don't care about and make it not work is beyond me
