Can I downgrade my hub?

Hi all, I had my Virgin M350 installation yesterday and have spent today trying to get the Hub 5x working with my existing Google mesh set up. After much frustration I think I've came to the conclusion that modem mode just doesn't work on the 5x.

Unfortunately we live in an old cottage and the signal/speed drop off moving to other rooms is significant when just using the supplied router.

It occurred to me that buying a cheap Hub 3/4 off eBay may enable me to do what I want to do?

There is no way to downgrade the hub on Xgs-pon. There is also no modem mode. No hub off ebay will work on the VM network.

Some people use their own kit in Access Point mode with Xgs-pon.

Keep your 14 day cooling off period foremost in mind here.

As noted by @Cardiffman282  just set your Google Mesh to Access Point mode and use the same SSID and passwords as set on the Hub 5X.  This allow for roaming between the WiFi nodes.

Many have tried the hidden link to modem mode on the Hub 5x but all have then had to perform a Reset finding that it is hidden because it does not work & leaves you unable to communicate with the Hub 5x.

The Mesh in Access Point mode is a viable way to proceed for now, and this will avoid double NAT issues.

If the Hub 5x is configured with the same SSID as the rest of the Mesh it becomes one extra Wi-Fi access point.

Thanks for your input chaps. I took your advice and set the Google WiFi up in bridge mode, then plugged it in upstairs (all our rooms have Ethernet ports). Great coverage and speed everywhere now.
